Brockport Stays Unbeaten With SUNYAC Win

BROCKPORT, N.Y.- The College at Brockport men's soccer team defeated SUNY Geneseo Saturday afternoon, by a score of 5-0. With the win, Brockport moves to 11-2-2 overall record and 5-0-2 in conference, while the Knights fall to 5-6-3 overall and 2-4-1 in conference.

The Golden Eagles struck first in this SUNYAC matchup, Ayu Jeylani scored his ninth goal of the season off a sneaky pass from Jason Hayes, giving Brockport the early lead, 1-0. Brockport's goalkeeper Joseph Romano, made a nice save at the 14th minute after a free kick was awarded to Geneseo, Romano found the ball through a screen of players, allowing the Green and Gold to hold their lead at one. The Golden Eagles would find the scoresheet once more at the 18th minute, this time it was AJ Sinclair who beat the Geneseo goalkeeper, heading the ball top shelf off a beautiful cross from Quinton Volpe and extending the Brockport lead, 2-0.

Brockport came out hungry in the second half, pressuring the Geneseo defenders all over their end of the field. The pressure would find its boiling point at the 50th minute, when a Knights defender touched the ball with his hand inside their own box, awarding a penalty kick to Jeff Hibbard, who buried his seventh goal of the season. The Golden Eagles would not stop there, at the 70th minute-mark Matthew Stefaniw stole the ball from a Geneseo defender and wired a shot from outside the 18', beating the Knights goalkeeper and advancing the Brockport lead, 4-0. Brockport would add one more to the goal column at the 80th minute, when freshman Ben Leach found the back of the net for his first goal as a Golden Eagle, solidifying the win, 5-0. Romano made seven saves in the win, picking up his second shutout in as many games.
