Germinerio Captures All-Time Passing Record in I-90 Bowl Win

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The No. 3 College at Brockport football team continued their tear through the Empire 8 conference with a victory over Buffalo State, 65-7. Joe Germinerio surpassed Joe Scibilia for the career passing yards record with 6,701, solidifying himself as one of Brockport's best. Germinerio accomplished this feat with only three years under center.

The impressive win preserves Brockport's perfect 7-0 record, as the Golden Eagles remain the proud owners of the I-90 Bowl Trophy for the third straight year knocking Buffalo to 1-6.

The first quarter started with the usual Brockport dominance on both sides of the ball. Rashad Baker jump-started the Green and Gold defense with an interception on the Bengal's very first drive. Germinerio took full advantage of the turnover and put the first seven points of the game on the board with a nine-yard touchdown pass to Tyree Brown. On the next drive Germinerio would complete an 83-yard bomb to DaQuan Hubbard for Brockport's second touchdown of the day. The defense then flashed their skill with another pick, this time coming from defensive end, Lawrence Jenkins.

The second quarter was kicked off by the Golden Eagle defense as Matt Szymanski and Alex West combined for a sack and a 12-yard loss. The rest of the half was more relentless offense adding touchdowns three, four, five and six. The door was just about closed on Buffalo by halftime as they were continuously thrashed by Brockport's offense and defense including a sack in the end zone for the Golden Eagle's first safety of the season.

At the start of the second half the Green and Gold sustained their pressure all over the field adding an additional two touchdowns in the third quarter and their final points coming from touchdown number eight in the fourth. Buffalo State added the lone score in the waning minutes of the third quarter to make the final count 65-7.

Brockport finished the day with an astounding 608-yards of total offense while keeping the Bengals to a mere 163-yards, including a minus 48-rushing yards. The defense was firing from all cylinders coming up with eight sacks and 16 tackles for a loss. Jenkins was an absolute stud racking up five tackles of his own and an interception. The offense was led by the combined effort of record-holding Germinerio through the air, finishing 14-of-20 for 233-yards and Zach Samborski on the ground with 111-yards and three touchdowns.

The Green and Gold hit the road for their next matchup at Utica College on Oct. 27 at 2 p.m.
