BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport field hockey team lost a close battle to Houghton College Tuesday night 2-1. The team falls to 4-8 on the season while Houghton improves to 4-8.
The Golden Eagles got off to a slow start offensively, putting a lot of pressure on their defense. The Highlanders demanded their offensive circle, outshooting the Green and Gold 10-0 in the first half. Despite finding themselves at a single goal deficit midway through the first, the Brockport defense stepped up to the plate. The team recorded two defensive saves from senior
Kelsey Devine and freshman
Hannah Martens while goalie
Adriana DeDie collected five saves on eight shots faced. Devine collected her sixth defensive save of the season, putting her at the top of the SUNAYC leaderboard.
The Highlanders collected their second goal of the night a few short minutes into the second half, however the Golden Eagles had an answer this time. Brockport added a goal of their own short after with a quick pass across the circle by
Katie Ziemba to find
Kayli Brown in the bottom right corner for her second goal of the season.
Katelynn Mello tried to keep the spirit alive with a strong shot on goal with two minutes to play however the team wasn't able to produce another opportunity to keep themselves in it.
Dedie finished the night with 10 saves and saw help from backup
Cara Fox who recorded four saves of her own.
The team is back in action Friday on home turf against SUNY New Paltz at 4 p.m. as they look to collect another SUNYAC victory.
