Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Brockport Stumbles On The Road At Hobart College

GENEVA, N.Y.—The College at Brockport men's basketball team got into a game of runs against non-conference foe, Hobart College, and came up short 79-75. The result moves the Green and Gold to 3-3 on the season, while the Statesmen now sit at 3-4.

The Golden Eagles unleashed the first run of the game, using a 14-3 stretch from 15:49 to the 12:01 mark, to give them a 25-11 advantage. The scoring was started by Devante Hagins, who knocked down a jumper before Tyler Collins made one of his own. Josh Nelson nailed a three pointer to bring the lead to double digits at 10. Chris Atkinson knocked down a three-ball, before later sinking back-to-back jumpers to give the team a 14-point advantage. Unfortunately, the Statesmen did not go away and chipped away at their deficit, until they found themselves tied with Brockport, 30-30, with 5:32 left. The Green and Gold fell behind by seven points shortly thereafter, but two three-point buckets by Collins along with a made basket by Justin Summers, evened the score up once again. Xavier Merriweather put an exclamation point on the first half, scoring a basket with one second left, to give his team a 41-39 lead going into half-time.

Brockport controlled a good portion of the second-half, with their largest deficit coming at the 14:54 mark, where they found themselves down four. They quickly regained the lead with three made jump-shots by Collins, including a three pointer, along with a made shot by Hagins. The Green and Gold held the advantage from 12:55 all the way until there was 1:17 left on the clock. From there on out it became a battle of free-throws, one that the Golden Eagles could not overcome.

Collins led the way in scoring for Brockport, putting up 20 points, while recording three assists and three steals. Summers was also a key contributor, scoring 17 points and grabbing seven rebounds and continuing to protect the rim with three blocks.

The Golden Eagles return home for a pair of State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) games on the weekend starting with SUNY Plattsburgh on Friday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
