Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Brockport gets edged out by Bears in final minutes

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport fell to the Potsdam Bears Saturday afternoon, 81-67. The Golden Eagles overall record falls to 4-6, as their State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) record evens out to 2-2. Potsdam improves to 4-6 overall and 1-3 in league play.

The first quarter started off with both teams keeping the score tight. Three pointers from Bailey Pratt and Kylee Rosbrook helped keep the Bears from running away with the lead. Before the end of the quarter, Julianna Taylor had a driving layup to close the gap and move the score to 20-17 in favor of the Bears.

Potsdam started the second quarter tying their largest lead of the game taking a 27-21 advantage, which only lit a spark for the Green and Gold who subsequently went on a 10-0 run. Field goals from Allison Chiera and Emily Nestler led the charge during that momentum-swinging run, and a deep triple by Taylor pushed the lead to 31-27. Brockport did not slow the pace, finishing the half with a controlling 42-32 edge.

The Golden Eagles opened the second half holding on to their comfortable lead for the first five minutes, but with a strong comeback by the Bears, the Green and Gold found themselves only up by one before the end of the quarter, leading the Bears 53-52. Following a 10-1 run by the Bears to start the fourth, Zaria McCullough, Nestler and Rosbrook helped the Green and Gold get back into the game with timely jump shots, bringing the deficit back to within four, 64-60. Unfortunately Brockport was unable to keep the game in reach as Potsdam's shots continued to fall in the final quarter.

Nestler ended with a double-double, having 15 points and 10 rebounds. Taylor also put up 15 points, while adding five rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and four steals on the day. Both were tied for the team high in scoring.  Pratt had an impressive game behind the arch nailing three triples.

The team will now enjoy their winter break as they do not return to action until January 8Th against Buffalo State at 5:30 p.m.
