OSWEGO, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's basketball team finished their season sweep over Oswego State on Friday night, defeating the Lakers by a final score of 61-46. The team will now have chance to host a State University of New York (SUNYAC) playoff game with a win against Cortland tomorrow.
The Golden Eagles led this game from the jump, as
Bailey Pratt scored the first of her eight first quarter points on a deep three-ball less than a minute in. Oswego had an answer, and the teams went back-and-forth until the midway point of the frame when a jumper from
Lindsay Johnson gave Brockport a lead they would never relinquish. Pratt kept up her hot shooting, scoring the next five points of the game, and the Green and Gold were able to carry a five point lead into the second quarter.
Schyler Laux put an exclamation point on her return to the team in the second quarter, sinking three shots from beyond the arc, accounting for nine of the teams 13 second quarter points. The defense held strong, helped by a block apiece from Johnson and
Emily Nestler, and Brockport was able to carry a six point lead into the half.
After Oswego closed the gap to four in the third quarter, the Golden Eagles locked down, outscoring Oswego 16-5 in the final frame to pull away for the win.
Zaria McCullough caught fire in the frame, scoring seven points, including five in the final two minutes.
Laux scored another five points in the quarter, including a pair of free throws, making her now 34-for-34 from the line on the season. She ended the game with 20 total points, leading the team in scoring. Johnson was second with 17 points, while also recording her eighth double-double of the season with 12 boards. Pratt was the last Golden Eagle to score in double-figures, recording 10 points.
A win over Cortland tomorrow afternoon would give Brockport either a No. 3 or No. 4 seed in the SUNYAC playoffs, allowing them to host a first round game next Tuesday.
