Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Season Comes To An End In SUNYAC Tournament

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's basketball team saw their season come to an end on Tuesday evening, falling 68-56 in the opening round of the SUNYAC Tournament to New Paltz. The Golden Eagles wrap up 2017-18 with a 12-14 record, marking the third straight season they've made an appearance in the conference tournament.

Senior Lindsay Johnson closed out her collegiate career with another outstanding game, capping off a career year with a team-high 15 points and nine rebounds. Johnson scored in double figures in 16 of the teams 26 games this season, averaging over 12 points per-game.

In a high scoring opening quarter of play, Bailey Pratt led the Golden Eagles with seven points off a pair of layups and a pull up three pointer. Her layup with 1:42 remaining gave Brockport a 13-11 lead, but New Paltz answered with a three on their next possession, and held the lead for the remainder of the game.

They extended that lead to as many as ten points in the second quarter, but a late 6-2 run capped off by back-to-back points in the paint from Johnson and Krystal Hunter cut the lead to seven going into halftime.

New Paltz took the momentum back early in the third quarter, starting the second half on an 11-0 run that widened their lead to an insurmountable distance. Brockport was able to go on a few runs that closed the gap back to single digits, but it was to no avail as the Hawks held on for the 12 point lead.

Pratt and Zaria McCullough both scored in the double figures as well, each contributing ten points in the effort. McCullough also dished out four assists and grabbed six boards, ending her freshman campaign on a high note.

Brockport shot well as a team, making 43% of their shots from the field compared to the Hawks 33%. They were also aided by their role players, with their bench outscoring New Paltz' 15-8.

The Golden Eagles will return a wealth of talent from this playoff team, as eight of the nine active players will be back in 2018-19. The squad will look to build upon their success from this year when they continue their pursuit of a SUNYAC title.
