Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Brockport Surges Past Oneonta, 89-72

BROCKPORT, N.Y.—The College at Brockport men's basketball team maintained their spot in the playoff hunt after knocking off SUNY Oneonta in an intense matchup. The 89-72 victory moves the Golden Eagles to a 16-6 record and 11-4 in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play. The red dragons now sit at 11-11 and 7-8 in conference competition.

The Green and Gold did not start off as strongly as they would have liked, falling behind 10-3 in the first three minutes of play. After a 30 second time out and a couple of Greg Dunne adjustments, the team stormed back to tie the game up at 10. A three pointer by Tyler Collins gave his unit a lead that they held onto the rest of the game. The Brockport offense remained consistent throughout the half and extended their lead to nine points multiple times. Justin Summers led the way with 16 points and three-for-five shooting from three by Dwayne Daniel kept the opposition on their toes. After an out of bounds alley-oop pass from Abdoulaye Sow to Summers, Brockport held a 46-37 advantage at the half.

Oneonta remained competitive in the beginning of the first half, but the Green and Gold began to take control at the 15:00 mark. The 28-9 run began with two made free throws by Hamed Shamseldin that was followed up with a layup by Michael O'Hara brought the lead to nine. A trio of free throws a minute later by Collins along with a dunk by David Clark, pushed that advantage to 13. The lead grew to 16 after a three-point play by Summers and then Shamseldin scored four straight points for Brockport to bring their lead to 20. The largest lead of the night came at the 3:11 mark, when Collins nailed a three-pointer to bring the score to 83-59.

Shamseldin led the way in scoring with 22 points and distributed the ball with six assists. Summers finished the night with 21 points and swatted away three balls. As a team Brockport scored 21 points off of 16 turnovers.

The Golden Eagles battle against SUNY New Paltz Saturday, Feb. 9 at 3 p.m. for a SUNYAC matchup. Brockport will honor their four seniors prior to the game.
