BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's basketball team dropped a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game against Oneonta on Friday evening by a final score of 53-48. The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 10-12 on the season (8-7 SUNYAC), while the Red Dragons improve to 16-6 (11-4).
This was a game of runs, with both teams finding spurts of momentum throughout the entirety of the contest. Oneonta started the game hot, scoring the first ten points in the opening quarter before Brockport found their stroke, going on a 6-2 run to close out the stanza.
Lindsay Johnson provided the offensive spark for Brockport throughout the first half, scoring 10 of her 14 total points in the first two quarters while shooting at a 56% clip. Eight Oneonta players were able to score in the first half however, and they carried a 28-19 lead into the break.
The Red Dragons threatened to put the game away midway through the third quarter when they went ahead by 13 after a fast break layup. Brockport was able to bounce back however, finishing out the frame on a 9-2 run to cut the lead all the way to six.
They held onto that lead early in the fourth quarter, scoring the first 10 points in the frame to take their first lead of the game at 42-38. An
Emily Nestler free throw with 4:45 remaining had them in solid position up five, but after trading baskets for the next four minutes, Oneonta's Samantha Lisikatos buried a three ball with 0:38 seconds remaining, giving Oneonta the lead that they were able to hold on to.
Johnson's 14 points led the team, and she was aided by Nestler who contributed 11, and
Zaria McCullough who scored seven.
Brianna Neeley grabbed seven boards, second only to Johnson's nine, and
Julianna Taylor grabbed six rebounds as well.
The Golden Eagles will look to get back in the win column tomorrow afternoon when they host New Paltz at 1 p.m., and honor senior
Lindsay Johnson for her contributions to the program.
