AUBURNDALE, FLA—The College at Brockport faced off against Ramapo College at the Chain of Lakes Stadium on Tuesday and were unable to come away with the win, losing 10-8. The Golden Eagles now hold a 4-6 record on the season and the Roadrunners sit at 5-3 in the early part of the year.
The Green and Gold scored quickly in the first innings with
Nicholas Pastore jumping on the first pitch of the game and driving the ball to right field for a double.
Tom Kretzler drove him home using a hard hit single and put the team up 1-0.
Drew DeBlasiis pushed in another run after a hard-hit ball to first base gave
Liam O'Leary enough time to cross home plate.
Brockport kept battling no matter the deficit. Heading into the top of the fourth, the team cut a six-run deficit in half thanks to three doubles and patient at bats.
Lou Miceli started it off with a double to right field and was brought home by a
Charlie Serino double. After a Pastore hit by pitch and a
Luke Gilbert walk, Kretzler smacked a double to left that scored two more runs and brought the deficit to 8-5. Miceli and
Austin Hall added three more runs combined in the seventh and eighth inning, but the pitching was unable to keep the opposition off the board and the Green and Gold fell 10-8.
Kretzler had another impressive game, batting 3-for-5, including a double and recorded three RBI. Pastore and O'Leary combined to hit 4-for-7 and scored five of the Brockport eight runs.
The Golden Eagles depart Florida and head to Lexington, South Carolina to battle against rival SUNY Cortland, as they begin State University of New York Athletic Conference competition. The three-game series begins on Friday, March 16 with a double-header starting at 10 a.m.
