ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's lacrosse team dropped a match on the road against St. John Fisher Wednesday afternoon, by a final score of 16-8. The Golden Eagles fall to 0-6 on the year, where the Cardinals move to 5-1.
Brockport came out slow in the first half as Fisher built a 7-0 lead over the first 14 minutes of play.
Heather Conklin chipped away at the lead as she capitalized on a free position shot to set the score at 7-1. The Green and Gold continued to struggle for the remaining of the half, as the Cardinals tacked on four additional goals to lead going into halftime, 11-1.
The Golden Eagles picked up the pace in the second half but still had trouble slowing down the Fisher offense. After two Cardinal goals, Brockport netted three straight to cut the deficit to 13-4, with two coming from
Victoria Thompson and the other from
Taylor Thomas. The Green and Gold offense kept rolling after a pair of goals from Thompson and
Jade Williams to now trail 14-6.
Andrea Zlinsky and
Sara Grapevine recorded back-to-back goals in the last minute of play, but the gap was too large to mount a successful comeback as they lost, 16-8.
Thompson led the offense today as she ended with three goals, where Grapevine added a goal and three assists.
Jillian Babinsky and
Nikki Nolan created some issues for the Fisher offense, as they racked up a total of four caused turnovers and winning four draw controls.
Sarah Brown played the full 60 minutes in net making six saves on the afternoon.
The Brockport women's lacrosse team travel to Oswego State this Saturday March 31, where they will open up conference play, with the time slated to start at 12 p.m.
