Ninth Inning Heroics Lifts Brockport Over YellowJackets

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The College at Brockport Baseball team, used a four-run ninth inning to comeback and defeat the University of Rochester on Tuesday in a non-conference matchup. The victory moves the Green and Gold to above .500 with a 12-11 record, while the Yellowjackets now sit at 6-9 on the season.

The Golden Eagles fell behind in the first inning after the Yellowjackets pushed a run across, but they unit rallied to take the lead two innings later. They first tied the game in the second inning, when Matt Van Allen and Liam O'Leary hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. Anthony Eaton moved the batters over with a sacrifice bunt and a hard-hit ball by Nik Malachowski scored the first run of the day for the Green and Gold. Avery Brooks drove in a run in the second inning to take the lead after Nicholas Pastore singled and stole second.

The opposition knocked in a tying run in the fourth inning to bring the score to 2-2, but once again Brockport reclaimed the lead after Eaton sent a ball over the fence in the top of the sixth. The Golden Eagles headed into the ninth inning down 6-4, but the team was not ready to quit. Avery Brooks got on base by a hit-by-pitch and was pinch-run for by Drew Deblasiis. Tom Kretzler reached on an error before an Austin Hall pinch-hit bunt single loaded the bases. O'leary came up to the plate and showed off his clutch hitting rocketing a ball down the left field line that cleared the bases and gave the team a 7-6 lead. Eaton recorded a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 8-6.

Sean Connors got the start and threw 4.0 innings of two-run ball on just five hits and struck out three. McCarthy earned the victory after tossing 3.2 innings of scoreless baseball and recorded six strikeouts, while allowing only two hits.
