ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The College at Brockport baseball team lost a hard-fought game 10-6 against non-conference opponent, St. John Fisher College. The Green and Gold fall to 12-12 on the year, while the Cardinals move to 16-7 on the season.
The Golden Eagles got off to a rocky start following behind 5-0 in the first inning. The team responded in the top of the second by using a pair of big two-out hits.
Anthony Eaton led off with a single to right field and was brought home by a
Drew DeBlasiis triple to left-center. After a quiet third and fourth inning, the Golden Eagle bats came alive in the fifth and sixth.
DeBlasiis began the rally with a base-hit and advanced to second off of a bunt-single by
Charlie Serino. One batter later,
Justin LaRosa doubled to right center to drive in the two runs and cut the deficit to 5-3. After the Cardinals knocked in one more in the bottom of the inning, the Green and Gold fought back to tie the game 6-6 off of a three-run homerun by
Nik Malachowski. Relief pitching struggled to keep the opponent's bat's in check and the Golden Eagles fell behind in the late innings.
LaRosa hit 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI, while seven of the starting nine all recorded a hit.
Casey Piazza and
Cooper Meldrim impressed out of the bullpen, pitching 3.0 innings of scoreless baseball, giving up two hits and striking out six of the 11 batters faced.
Brockport head to no. 19 ranked Oswego State for a three-game series starting on Friday, April 13 with a 3 p.m. first pitch time.
