Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Defensive Battle Leaves Brockport Short of the Victory, 3-2

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's lacrosse teams dropped a close hard-fought battle against SUNY Geneseo 3-2 Wednesday afternoon in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action. The Golden Eagles fall to 4-6 (2-1 SUNYAC) on the season, where the Knights move to 6-4 (1-1 SUNYAC).

Brockport came out stumbling in the first quarter, as Geneseo capitalized within the first minute of play to take a 1-0 lead. The gap widened when the Knights added a late goal to hold a 2-0 advantage heading into the next quarter.

The Golden Eagles picked up the paced in the second as they started to control the game. The Green and Gold cut the deficit to 2-1 off a Billy Coppola goal five minutes into action. After a caused turnover from Joe Chiarmonte to lead to a fast-break opportunity, Liam O'Connor hit Coppola with a pass which he then took his shot high past the goalie. The Golden Eagles kept the momentum to eventually score late on a man-up advantage to tie the game. Colton Oliver received a pass from Jake Recor, in which he ripped top corner into the back of the net to set the score at 2-2 heading into halftime.

The remainder of the game was a defensive battle for both sides as neither team could find the back of the net in the third quarter. The final quarter stayed the same as both defenses locked down to hold the game scoreless. In the final minutes of the game, Geneseo earned an extra-man advantage in which they capitalized on to pull away 3-2. Brockport had one last opportunity to tie the game up, but Oliver's shot was saved by the visiting goal to end the game losing by the eventual score.

Goalie Dallas Meyers was a key contributor to the success on defense as he racked up 17 saves over 60-mintues of play.

Michael Caternolo dominated the faceoff circle as he went 7-9 on the day, with four groundballs.

Steven Gurin and Zach Cook led the defense for the Golden Eagles with two caused turnovers and four groundballs each.

Brockport stays at home for their next SUNYAC matchup against SUNY Cortland this Saturday April 14, with the time set to start at 1 p.m.
