CORTLAND, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's lacrosse team fell to State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival SUNY Cortland Tuesday afternoon, by a final score of 16-13. The Golden Eagles drop to 6-8 (5-2 SUNYAC) on the year, where the Red Dragons move to 12-4 (7-0 SUNYAC).
Brockport started hot in the first half as
Taylor Thomas notched a free position goal one minute into play to take a 1-0 lead. After the Red Dragons tied the game up, The Golden Eagles answered when
Hannah Cullen beat the goalie on a bounce shot to take a 2-1 advantage. The Green and Gold stumbled as Cortland notched four goals over five minutes of action compared to Brockport's one to pull ahead 5-3. The Golden Eagles fought back to eventually cut the deficit to now trail 6-5, when
Jade Williams notched back-to-back goals, with one on a free position. Cortland nabbed a pair of goals to close out the half, as Brockport trailed 8-5 heading into halftime.
The Green and Gold slipped early in the second half when the Red Dragons notched a goal off the opening draw control to widen the gap to 9-5. Brockport fought back and sparked a goal spree to get back into the game.
Heather Conklin ignited this run when she ripped her shot top corner to move the score to 9-6. Thomas responded with a goal of her own when she snuck a shot into the back of the net to set the score at 9-7. After a Cortland goal, the Golden Eagles tallied three straight goals to tie the game at 10-10. Williams started the run with a pair of goals, to then have Conklin even the score out on her free position goal. After both teams added a goal each, Cortland slotted three straight goals to increase their lead to 14-11. Brockport chipped away at the lead with back-to-back goals from Williams and Conklin to trail 14-13. The game was put out of reach when the Red Dragons netted two late goals to hold onto the victory as the Green and Gold lost 16-13.
Both teams were evenly matched through the contest as neither held a large advantage in any stat, groundballs (19-18), draw controls (16-15), and both failing three clear attempts.
Williams led the offense for the Golden Eagles as she finished the game with five goals, while be a perfect 3-3 on the free position attempts. Conklin was the next leading scorer as she recorded three goals, and going 2-3 on free positions.
Nikki Nolan led the defense with three caused turnovers and a draw control, and
Ashley Tack scooped up four ground balls.

Sarah Brown played the full 60-minutes in the net today totaling 10 saves.
Brockport returns home for senior day this Saturday April 28th, with the time slated to start at 1 p.m.
