Brockport Looks to Make it Five in a Row at Home Saturday Against Hartwick

The College at Brockport football team returns home on Saturday in search of its fifth straight win as the Golden Eagles host Hartwick College in Empire 8 Conference action on the turf at Bob Boozer Field.  The contest is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.

Ticket Information: Tickets for Saturday's contest are $5 for the general public and $3 for senior citizens/high school students/children. Brockport students, faculty and staff are free with ID. Tickets are available online through Brockport ticket sales, and at the gate. $5 tickets can be purchased online HERE. There is no will call at the event. Please have either your e-ticket printed out or available to scan on your cell phone.
 
Follow The Action: All five of Brockport's home games will be broadcast live by Roc Sports Network (RSN). ROCSportsNetwork.com is Rochester's only local network showcasing Rochester and Western New York sports through podcasts, television shows and game broadcasts both online and on television. Saturday's game will be streamed live on gobrockport.com/watch.  Live audio for all games will be provided by 89.1 The Point, Brockport's student radio station. Home Sweet Home: Brockport has won 15 consecutive regular season home games and they have not lost in front of the home crowd at Boozer field during a regular season game since Sept. 24, 2016.  Including post season play, Brockport has won 18 of its last 19 home games. The Golden Eagles are 2-0 at home this season, outscoring their opponents by a score of 69-6.
 
Four in a Row: Brockport (4-1, 1-0 Empire 8) has now rattled off four straight victories following its week one loss on the road at Hobart. Over the course of the four victories, the Golden Eagles have posted two shut outs and allowed just 28 total points.  Brockport has outscored its opponents 141-28 over the course of the last four games and the Golden Eagles are averaging 35.25 points per game during the win streak. 
 
Empire 8 Dominance: Brockport was now won 17 straight Empire 8 Conference contests dating back to Oct. 29, 2016. Over the course of the last four seasons the Golden Eagles are 21-2 in conference games, including an unblemished 7-0 record in each of the last two seasons.
 
Series History: Brockport is 7-2-1 in 10 meetings all-time against Hartwick. Brockport has not lost to Hartwick since joining the Empire 8 Conference back in 2014. The Golden Eagles have outscored the Hawks 190-68 over the course of the last five meetings. The last time these two teams met at Bob Boozer Field was in 2017 and the Golden Eagles won 45-0. 

In the National Spotlight: The Brockport defense ranks fourth in the country on third down so far this season.  Brockport is holding opponents to a .200 success rate in third down situations. On third down, the Golden Eagles have allowed just 15 first downs out of 75 attempts. Brockport's rushing defense also ranks fourth nationally, allowing an average of 42.6 yards on the ground per game.

Tough to Score On: Coach Fox's defense is once again among the national leaders in several defensive categories -- including the most important of categories – points against. The Golden Eagles ranks second in the Empire 8 and 17th nationally allowing an average of just 12.2 points per contest.  Brockport has two shut outs this year and they have allowed just six points in their last two outings combined.  The Golden Eagles also rank fourth nationally in total defense, allowing just 201.6 total yards of offense per game.
 
Courage Bowl XV Recap: Brockport posted nine sacks and held host St. John Fisher College to -3 yards rushing on the ground as the Golden Eagles won their third straight Courage Bowl 17-0 on Saturday night at Growney Stadium. Brockport senior linebacker Alex West totaled 2.5 sacks and also added seven tackles, while Andrew Covais posted a team-high eight tackles, one sack and one pass breakup.  Lawrence Jenkins tied Covais for the team lead with eight tackles and he also added a half sack.
 
Receiving Votes: Brockport is receiving votes for the fifth straight week in the latest d3football.com national poll (16 votes in week 4). The Golden Eagles rose to as high as No. 3 in the national polls headed into the second round of the NCAA Division III Championships last season. Brockport has been a fixture in the top 25 each week dating back to week 1 of 2017. The top 25 is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country, and is published weekly.
 
Get to Know Mangone: Brockport seventh year Head Coach Jason Mangone has been named the AFCA Region I Coach of the Year in each of the last two seasons and he recently picked up his 53rd career victory as the Golden Eagles defeated St. John Fisher in the Courage Bowl last Saturday. Mangone has an impressive 53-20 overall record over the course of six-plus seasons at the helm. Mangone and his staff have earned two straight Empire 8 Coaching Staff of the Year honors after compiling a 24-2 overall record in that span.  In 2017 he was named the AFCA National Coach of the Year after guiding the Golden Eagles to the semifinals of the NCAA Div. III Championships.

Empire 8 Player of the Week: Senior linebacker Alex West was named the Empire 8 Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday following his performance in Brockport's 17-0 shut out win at St. John Fisher College on Saturday in Courage Bowl XV. West led a defensive effort that earned its second shutout of the season. He posted a team-high 2.5 sacks and also added seven tackles.  The Golden Eagles totaled a season-high 9.0 sacks on the day and they also held SJFC to -3 yards rushing on the ground. West ranks in the top 20 in the Empire 8 with 27 total tackles this season. He also ranks fourth in the league with 3.5 sacks and third with 9.0 tackles for a loss. He is a captain for arguably the top defense in the league, allowing an average of just 12.2 points per contest.

Dual Threat: Freshman quarterback Freddy June leads the team in both rushing and passing yards this season.  He is currently averaging 6.7 yards per carry and he has four touchdowns on the ground. He has also completed 36 passes for 641 yards and five TDs through the air.  He ranks fifth in the league with an average of 191.6 total yards per game.

Freshman Phenom: Freshman defensive back Raylens Boutin ranks fourth in all of Division III football with an average of 2.4 passes defended per game.  He has 10 total pass breakups and two interceptions, both returned for a touchdown. He also ranks fourth on the team with 20 tackles this season.
 
Running All Over: Brockport's rushing attack ranks second in the conference with an average of 238.2 rushing yards per game.  The Golden Eagles have 1,191 yards rushing on 243 carries to go along with 12 rushing TDs.

Three Headed Monster: Brockport's Freddy June, Jala Coad and Justin Morrison all rank in the top eight in the conference in rushing yards per game.  June leads the way and ranks fifth with an average of 63.4, while Coad ranks sixth (63.0) and Morrison ranks eighth (52.4).

A Nose for Pay Dirt: Sophomore running back Jala Coad has found the end zone often this season and currently ranks second in the conference with 36 total points.  He has scored at least one touchdown in four of five games this season. He caught a receiving touchdown in the season opener, and he has added five rushing TDs over the course of the last three games.
 
Deep Threat: Senior wide receiver DaQuan Hubbard leads the league and ranks fourth nationally with an average of 27.82 yards per reception.  He has 11 catches this season and averages 61.20 yards receiving per game. He also has one touchdown.

One More Catch: Senior wide receiver Joseph Ortiz is now tied for first on the College's all-time receptions list with 220 career catches. He needs just one more catch to earn sole possession of the receptions record. He leads the team with 15 catches through five games.

Hernandez Stepping Up: Defensive back Kenny Hernandez has not disappointed since working his way to the top of the depth chart in week two.  He is tied for the team lead with two interceptions and he also ranks second on the team with 21 total tackles.

Around the Empire 8: Brockport, Cortland and Alfred sit atop the Empire 8 Conference standings with one league win a piece. Hartwick was on its bye last week and is the lone E8 member to have not played a conference contest yet this season.  Brockport, Alfred and Cortland all have four victories overall this season.

Meet Hartwick: Head Coach Mark Carr is in his 18th season at the helm of the Hartwick football program.  The Hawks are currently 1-3 overall, with their lone win of the season coming on the road at Alfred State, 30-20, back in week two. Alfred State is the lone common opponent between Brockport and Hartwick so far this season.  Hartwick is averaging 17.5 points per contest this season. Grant Harman and Davien Kuinlan have each spent time under center this season.  Harman has completed 57 of 110 passes for 671 and five touchdowns.  Harman has also thrown seven interceptions.  Kuinlan poses a greater threat in the run game, and he currently has 49 carries for 149 yards rushing and three scores on the ground. Kishaun Bell is the preferred target in the passing game, as he has 18 catches for 35 yards and four TDs. Hartwick's defense is led by Kyle Kessler who has 26 tackles, two interceptions and one sack.  Cameron Conrad ranks second on the team with 25 tackles, including 4.5 tackles for a loss.

A Well Deserved Bye Week: Brockport has its midseason bye week next weekend to rest up and prepare for the second half of its schedule. Following the bye week, the Golden Eagles will host Utica College at Bob Boozer Field on Oct. 26th at 12 p.m.
