Volleyball Faces Wells for the First Time Since 2014

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport volleyball team welcomes Wells College to the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium Wednesday before heading on the road to Union College this weekend. The Golden Eagles enter the weekend with a 9-10 record and 5-2 in conference play, after a 1-1 split this past weekend with New Paltz and Oneonta.

Nearing Post Season: As the regular season comes to a close, the Golden Eagles are looking to add a few more wins to their overall record before facing their final two conference opponents, Oswego and Cortland. The Green and Gold currently rank third overall in the SUNYAC, just behind Cortland and Geneseo. With Geneseo already securing themselves a spot in the post season, the Golden Eagles anticipate finding themselves amongst the other five teams that make the tournament.

2014 Recap: The Golden Eagles and the Express haven't met in the regular season since 2014, where the Express notched a 3-0 win in three close sets (25-18, 25-20, and 26-24). That season, both teams made their respective conference semifinals, the Golden Eagles dropping a 0-3 matchup with New Paltz and the Express falling short against Penn State Berks 1-3.

What To Expect: The Express enter Wednesday's matchup with an 7-16 overall record and 4-2 in conference play. The team is coming off of a split weekend in Pennsylvania where they picked up a 3-1 over Penn State Harrisburg and dropped a 3-1 contest to Penn State Abington. Through 23 matches, the Express are averaging 10.29 kills per set, 9.75 assists per set, 1.39 blocks per set, 1.85 service aces per set, and 15.51 digs per set for a total .113 team hitting percentage. Senior Jackie Allen has been an offensive powerhouse for the Express this season, leading the team in four different categories including kills per set, total kills, hitting percentage, and service aces per set.

Golden Eagles Leaders: Meaghan Mastro, Andrea Coyle, Elena Grossman and Lindsey Luce have been the offensive squad the Green and Gold have relied on to produce key opportunities in front of the net. All four athletes currently lead the team in points and kills, while also adding the height in front of the net that the Golden Eagles need on defense. All four currently also lead the team in total blocks as well.
