Tautis Poniskaitis held the home team scoreless as the Brockport men's soccer team kept its SUNYAC Conference Tournament chances alive with a 1-0 win over New Paltz on Saturday afternoon.
Brockport's shutout victory over the Hawks capped off an exciting weekend that also featured a 3-2 double overtime victory on the road at conference-leading Oneonta on Friday afternoon. Brockport has now won two in a row and improved its record to 8-6-2 overall and 3-4-1 in league play. New Paltz saw its record fall to 8-7 overall and 2-5 in the SUNYAC.
Brockport earned a 14-10 shot advantage and also won the corner kick battle, 8-5. The Golden Eagles will host Houghton on Wednesday for their final non-conference contest of the regular season, before traveling to Geneseo next Saturday to take on the Knights in a crucial SUNYAC matchup with playoff implications.
Poniskaitis recorded four saves on the afternoon to help keep the Hawks off the board. Marc DePasquale stopped six shots in the loss for New Paltz.
Brockport currently sits in sixth place in the league standings with ten total points. Geneseo sits in seventh place with seven points. The top six teams will earn a spot in the conference's postseason tournament.
