Geneseo, NY – The College at Brockport men's soccer team was on the road against SUNY Geneseo Saturday for a chance to clinch a playoff berth.
Nolan Byrnes scored the game-winning goal in the 78
th minute to give Brockport a 2-1 victory, and put the Golden Eagles into the SUNYAC Tournament. Brockport has earned the No. 6 seed in the SUNYAC Tournament and will travel on Saturday, November 2
nd to compete in the first round against host and third-seeded Buffalo State at 1 p.m.
Matthew Stefaniw put the Green and Gold on the scoreboard early with a header in the 10
th minute of the opening half.
Zach Langelotti was credited with the assist, as the team took a 1-0 lead. Geneseo would tie the game up before halftime with a goal in the 41
st minute, making the scoreboard read 1-1 at the half.
Shots were just about even in the first period of play, as Brockport had six shots compared to five from Geneseo.
The Golden Eagles were the aggressors in the second half outshooting the Knights 10-4, but were unable to score for the most of the half. Finally
Nolan Byrnes scored on a free kick from 20 yards out to give Brockport its final lead of 2-1.
The team advances to 9-7-2 overall and 4-4-1 in the SUNYAC, clinching a spot in the conference tournament for a chance to defend its SUNYAC Championship from last year.
