Brockport Hosts Oneonta for SUNYAC Tournament First Round Matchup

Brockport, NY – The College at Brockport women's soccer team hosts Oneonta on Saturday for the first round of the SUNYAC Tournament, beginning at 1 pm. Brockport heads into the tournament 11-6-1 overall and 6-3 in SUNYAC play.

The First Round: This weekend kicks off the start of the women's soccer SUNYAC Tournament. The Golden Eagles enter the contest as the #3 seed, with Oneonta holding the #6 seed. The winner of Saturday's first round match will take on the #2 seeded Cortland Red Dragons on November 6th in the Semi-Finals.

Longin in Control: After tying the single game record for points with eight in her previous game against Elmira, Kiley Longin leads the way as Brockport's leading scorer with 14 goals. She is tied for first in the conference in goals and ranks second with 35 total points on the year. Going into the SUNYAC Tournament with 49 goals scored, Brockport has scored more goals than any other team in the conference.

Home Field Advantage: Entering this weekend's match as the higher seed, the Green and Gold have earned a home game for the first round. This will be the 5th game in a row that Brockport plays on A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field. The notoriously known grass field has provided that home field advantage this season, as the team holds a 6-2 record at home. Brockport has won four of its last five home matches and is outscoring opponents 21-2 in that span.

Purposeful Passing: Some of Brockport's key players include Sydnee Smith, Camryn Pettit, and Kiley Longin. All three rank inside of the top five in the SUNYAC for assists going into the post season. They have combined for a total of 22 assists this year. The team has a total of 40 assists through the regular season, which leads the conference.

Tournament History: The Golden Eagles are back in the conference tournament after missing the cut last season. They have two conference championships in program history from 1983 and 2006. In the team's last trip to SUNYAC's in 2017, it fell to Cortland on the road in the first round. A first round win over Oswego in 2013 was the last time Brockport earned a win the conference tournament. Brockport's last trip to the championship game was in 2008, when the team fell to Oneonta in a shootout.

Against Oneonta: These two teams met during the regular season, resulting in a 3-0 Brockport win. The Golden Eagles were at home for the last meeting, as they got contributions from three different goal scorers. Kiley Longin, Sydnee Smith, and Franchesca Polcaro all found the back of the net against the Red Dragons. Goalkeeper Kayla Usborne notched the clean sheet, making five saves in the match.

Scouting Oneonta: Oneonta enters Saturday's first round matchup with a record of 6-9-3 overall and 4-5 in SUNYAC competition. The team most recently lost a non-conference match earlier this week, falling to Wilkes 1-0. The Red Dragons have just one win in their last seven games, coming against Plattsburgh which clinched a spot in the conference tournament. Christina Kornfeld leads the team with 23 total points this season, on nine goals and five assists.

Win or Go Home: Now that the postseason has arrived, a loss will result in the end of the season for either team. A win will advance either team into the SUNYAC Tournament Semi-Finals, where the team will travel to face #2 Cortland at 1 pm on Wednesday, November 6th.
