Volleyball Secures Fourth Straight Conference Win

BROCKPORT, N.Y. -  The College at Brockport volleyball team took three straight sets from Buffalo State Saturday afternoon to secure their fourth straight conference win of the season. The Golden Eagles record improves to 8-9 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

Collectively, the Green and Gold were offensively dominant against the Bengals, recording a 41-15 deficit in kills while also accumulating a strong .306 hitting percentage on the day. Elena Grossman, Meaghan Mastro and Lindsey Luce led the team in total kills, notching 10, eight and seven respectively. Shelby Budnick had a well-rounded performance on both sides of the ball, recording three aces, 12 digs and two assists. Abbey Manning and Kerri McHale provided the backbone for the Golden Eagles offense in front of the net, Manning posting 19 assists and McHale 16.

Set 1 (25-7): The Golden Eagles energy level was apparent from the start as they opened up the first set with four kills and three forced attack errors to put a quick seven point rally in the books. The Bengals were only able to record seven points against the Green and Gold as they maintained a healthy lead throughout the entire set. A final five point serve by Ellen Paddock helped secure the team a 25-7 win.

Set 2 (25-17): The Bengals put up their strongest performance in the second set, keeping within a couple of points until the final moments. Luce nailed a kill to put the Golden Eagles on the board first and they never looked back. The Green and Gold's offense was consistent throughout, posting multiple three-point rallies. McHale's three point serve performance led the Golden Eagles to a 25-17 win in set two.

Set 3 (25-15): The Golden Eagles opened up set three with three kills by Grossman and Luce and two service aces by Budnick to give them a quick 5-0 lead. A similar rally in the final five points of the match secured the Green and Gold a win on the day, with individual kills from Mastro, Grossman, Krysti McDonald, and Thompson.

The Golden Eagles are back in action next weekend on the road where they are set to take on New Paltz and Oneonta on Friday and Saturday.
