Golden Eagles Improve Win Streak To Eight

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – After a standout win over a powerhouse Clarkson team on Friday night, the College at Brockport volleyball team commanded day two of the Brockport Invite, notching a double header sweep of St. Lawrence University and St. John Fisher College.
 
The Golden Eagles opened up the morning against No. 9 regionally ranked St. Lawrence University, stealing the show in three straight sets (25-22, 25-19, 25-22). The team closed out the match with 38 total kills with Meaghan Mastro and Andrea Coyle leading the way at 10 kills apiece. Mastro added an additional three assists and two blocks for 12 total points and Coyle recorded two service aces and two blocks for 13 points.
 
Luce then provided the offensive strength for the Golden Eagles in a 3-0 shutout of the St. John Fisher Cardinals (25-20, 25-15, 25-21), producing 10 kills and four block assists for 12 total points. The most impressive performance of the day came from Shelby Budnick who notched 10 total service aces on the day, recording three against the Saints and then seven against the Cardinals. Four of Budnick's seven service aces against the Cardinals came in the first eight points of the second set, giving the Golden Eagles a hefty lead early on.
 
The team finished the day with 72 total kills allowing them to improve to 17-10 overall before heading into a crucial conference weekend. The Golden Eagles will compete in the semifinals of the SUNYAC tournament Friday at SUNY Geneseo where they will play the winner of #3 Cortland vs #6 Oswego.
