Brockport to Face Salisbury at Carnegie Mellon Invite

Brockport, NY – The College at Brockport men's basketball team is on the road Sunday, December 1st to compete at the Carnegie Mellon DoubleTree Invitational. The team will take on Salisbury University down in Pittsburgh, PA for a 1 pm tip-off.

Last Time Out: The Golden Eagles improved to 2-1 on the season after they took down Medaille College in the last game. They won, 96-84, as four players scored in double figures. Justin Summers led the way with 26 points and nine rebounds. Jahidi Wallace, Tyree Grimsley, and Malick Sylla all scored at least 11 points in the win. The Green and Gold have now won two in a row heading into the weekend.

Player of the Week: After helping the team defeat both Medaille and Hobart last week, Justin Summers was named the SUNYAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week. He averaged 24.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in the two games, recording one double-double along the way. He is currently third in the SUNYAC with a points per game average of 20.3 just three games into the year.

Wallace at the Line: Jahidi Wallace is the team's second leading scorer, averaging 16 a game. Free throws have been a big part of his scoring success so far, scoring 24 of his 48 total points from the line. With 31 attempts at the charity stripe, Wallace is shooting 77.4% on free throws at this point in the season. He has also chipped in on the boards, snagging four rebounds a game.

Off the Bench: Third in scoring for the Green and Gold is Malick Sylla. After pouring in 11 points against Medaille, he has recorded at least 10 points in back-to-back games. Sylla has provided important scoring coming off the bench, averaging 8.7 points a game from his reserve role. Tyree Grimsley also contributed strongly off the bench recently, putting up 13 points on 4-for-5 shooting, six boards, and four steals against Medaille.

In Transition: Early on in the season Brockport has proven that it thrives playing at a fast pace. Forcing turnovers and running in transition allows the team to score easy fast break buckets. Averaging almost 12 steals a game, Brockport has scored an average of 18.7 points per game off turnovers and 18 points a game off fast break opportunities.

Scouting Salisbury: The Salisbury Sea Gulls are 3-3 overall with a game against Virginia Wesleyan on November 26th ahead of the weekend meeting with Brockport. The team has yet to win a game at home, but bounced back with a win over Goucher, 66-47, following two straight losses. With four players averaging double-digit points right now, Gary Briddell leads the way with 13.4 points per game.

What's Next: The Golden Eagles will open up SUNYAC play on Friday, December 6th with a home game against Oswego. The game will tip-off at 7:30 pm.
