Brockport, NY – The College at Brockport women's soccer team continues its postseason journey on Wednesday, as it travels to play Cortland in the SUNYAC Semi-Finals. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 pm.
First Round Victory: The #3 seeded Golden Eagles hosted #6 Oneonta in the opening round of the conference tournament. They took care of business with a 3-0 win, featuring three different goal scorers.
Kiley Longin,
Franchesca Polcaro, and
Sydnee Smith all found the back of the net. Freshman goalkeeper
Kayla Usborne logged five saves on the way to a clean sheet.
SUNYAC Leader: Freshman forward
Kiley Longin scored her 15
th goal of the season against Oneonta, making her the top goal and point scorer in the SUNYAC. She leads all players in the conference with a total of 37 points from her 15 goals and seven assists. Teammates
Camryn Pettit and
Sydnee Smith are both also top 10 in the conference in points.
Semi-Final History: This will be Brockport's first trip to the SUNYAC Semi-Finals since the 2013 season, when it fell to Oneonta, 2-1. The 2008 postseason was the most recent win in the Semi-Final round, when the team defeated Cortland in a penalty shootout. In 2006 and 1983 the Green and Gold would take a win in the Semi-Finals and go on to secure the only two SUNYAC titles in program history.
Looking for Revenge: Brockport and Cortland have already met this year, with a regular season matchup back in September. After a tied game at 2-2 in regulation, Cortland would score in the overtime period to steal a win on Brockport's home field. The Golden Eagles have a chance to return the favor on Wednesday with chance at making the SUNYAC Championship game at stake. Longin and Smith both scored in the previous matchup, with Pettit assisting for both.
Scouting Cortland: The Red Dragons are 10-5-2 overall and earned a first round bye in the conference tournament thanks to an undefeated 7-0-2 mark in the SUNYAC. The team has not lost a game since falling, 2-1, to Nazareth in the beginning of October. Cortland is looking to return to the SUNYAC Championship game, after falling in the title game to Geneseo last season. The team features three players with double-digit points with Jaden Galluzzo, Ro Hernandez, and Alannah O'Shea combining for 23 goals on the year. Goalkeeper Danika Svendsen has come up with 91 stops in goal for the Red Dragons and has five shutouts this season.
Next Step: The winner of Wednesday's game advances to the SUNYAC Finals, while the losing team's season will come to an end. If Geneseo wins its Semi-Final match, then the championship game will be played at Geneseo. If Plattsburgh defeats Geneseo, then the winner of the Brockport-Cortland matchup will host the championship game on November 9
