Cortland, NY – The College at Brockport women's soccer team was on the road Wednesday for a SUNYAC Tournament Semi-Final matchup against Cortland. The hosting Red Dragons defeated Brockport, 5-1, and will advance to the SUNYAC Championship game.
The Golden Eagles' season will come to an end after the loss, as they finish the year with a 12-7-1 record overall and made a conference semi-final appearance for the first time since 2013.
Cortland found the back of the net twice early in the first half of play, taking a 2-0 lead by the 16-minute mark. The team would add to its lead right before halftime, holding a 3-0 advantage over the Green and Gold.
In the second half the Red Dragons scored two more goals in quick succession, to take a commanding 5-0 lead. In the 82
nd minute Brockport would get on the scoreboard to make the final score read, 5-1. Senior
Molly Zientek registered the goal, with the assist coming from
Brylie Hapeman.
Kayla Usborne started in net for the Golden Eagles, making four saves.
Kimberly Lubanski entered the game later in the second half, recording two stops. Despite being outshot in the contest, Brockport drew four corner kicks compared to three from Cortland.
The Golden Eagles finish the year with their most wins (12) since 2013 and most conference wins (6) since 2012. Head Coach
