BROCKPORT, N.Y.- The College at Brockport women's basketball team took on the Oswego State Lakers Friday in their second to last regular season matchup of the year. The Golden Eagles flourished on both sides of the ball and cruised to an impressive 82–55 victory.
The Golden Eagles came out of the gates hot as
Julianna Taylor scored the team's first six points nailing two three pointers. Throughout the entire first quarter the Green and Gold's offense provided excellent looks that were taken advantage of by
Emily Nestler. The senior had back to back buckets that put Brockport up 14-11 with 5:20 left in the quarter. Contributions from
Allison Chiera,
Morgan Elmer, and
Bailey Pratt allowed the Golden Eagles to score a season high 30 points in the frame to put them up 30-22.
Brockport continued their impressive play in the second quarter, Nestler starting the scoring off with a pair of layups.
Chelsea Henry really caught fire in the second as she scored 10 points in the quarter alone, including two three pointers. The story of the second was really the tenacious defense. The Golden Eagles forced a multitude of Laker turnovers including three drawn charges by Henry, that led to multiple offensive opportunities. Henry's ability to turn the ball allowed Brockport to take a substantial 52-32 lead heading into halftime.
Pratt got the offense reignited to start the second half, hitting a jump shot from mid-range. The Golden Eagles continued to find success at the bottom of the net, while holding the Lakers to limited points. Taylor started the way she finished, scoring the Golden Eagle's last seven points of the quarter, including a buzzer beater layup at the end of the third. Brockport saw late contributions from
Kylee Rosbrook and
Nicole Leslie that helped them cruise to an 82–55 victory.
Taylor's ability to execute from a number of different areas on the floor led the Green and Gold to victory, finishing with 22 points including hitting three times from beyond the arc. Henry and Nestler also put up big points in what proved to be an offensively strong outing for the Golden Eagles, each capping the night with 16 points apiece.
The Golden Eagles are back in action tomorrow at home as they face off with SUNY Cortland at 2 p.m. in their last regular season game of the year.
