BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport hosted the first day of the 2019 NCAA Division III Mideast Wrestling Regional Championships on Saturday, as the Golden Eagles finished the day with a mixed bag of results. With a wrestler set to compete at each weight class the Green and Gold were anxious to compete.
The top performers included
Matt Caccamise in the 125 weight class and
Ryan Snow in the 149 weight class. Both wrestlers defeated their first two opponents to earn a spot in the semi-finals. Caccamise's first victory came in the form of a 3-1 decision before dismantling his next opponent with a 16-0 technical fall. Snow saw similar results but in reverse. His first bout ended with a dominating 18-3 technical fall, before earning the quarterfinal win in the form of a 6-2 decision.
Donny McCoy and
Jackson Bell will also be wrestling on Sunday, but they will be pursuing third place. McCoy kicked off his day with a pin at 2:02, before being pinned himself in his second bout. However, he came back strong in his third battle, pinning his opponent in 5:12 to see his season continue on. Bell impressed in his first victory, earning a 13-2 major decision before dropping his second bout. Similar to his teammate, Bell was able to bounce back and secure a close 8-7 decision to earn his second victory of the day.
Day two of the Mideast Wrestling Regional's will continue on Sunday, Feb. 24 with competition starting at 10 a.m.
