Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Brockport Loses Road Matchup Against Geneseo, 77-76

GENESEO, N.Y.- The College at Brockport men's basketball team traveled to SUNY Geneseo to face the Knights Saturday in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup. The Golden Eagles dropped a stunner, losing by just a point, which came from a last second free throw from the opponent.

Brockport now holds an overall record of 13-9, while maintain a conference mark of 9-6. With the win Geneseo rises to 7-15 on the year and 4-11 in SUNYAC games.

The Green and Gold started this game off with a bang, literally. Four seconds into the game, off the tip-ball, Justin Summers had an open lane that resulted into a two-handed flush. Devante Hagins came up with a steal and finished a fast break alley-oop dunk assisted by Danny Ashley. Five different Golden Eagles scored during an 11-2 run which helped open a 15-6 lead that was kept for the remainder of the half. With both teams exchanging scores, Antonio Alvarez hit a key three with 5:28 left to help put the advantage at 30-20. Brandon Kennedy-Gay hit a floater in the final seconds to put Brockport up 36-29. Chris Atkinson and Montgomery Stroman also chipped in, scoring four first half points apiece.

The second frame continued the back and forth trend of the first half. With 14:22 on the clock, Ashley had a pair of layups, being fouled on the second to help extend the lead to 49-39. Summers and Hagins provided consistent play to keep that advantage at six until an Ashley three pointer with 4:16 left pushed it to nine. Geneseo didn't give up and provided a run bringing the game to 74-71 until a Summers layup with 50 seconds left brought it back to five.

After a barrage of free throws from Geneseo, the game was brought back to a one possession game at 76-73 with just 25 seconds left. The tough press of the Knights led to a turnover and a quick three to tie the game at 76. With a chance to end the game, a missed three pointer led to a foul by Brockport on the rebound and Geneseo made one free throw to win the game 77-76.

The Golden Eagles were led by Hagins who had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Summers finished with 16 and Ashley also had a balanced game finishing with 13 points, five assists, and six rebounds.

Brockport is back in action at home Tuesday in a rematch against the Knights, looking to get revenge and split the series.
