Brockport Stumbles Against Oneonta

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The College at Brockport baseball team begin their spring training trip with a double-header against SUNY Oneonta on Saturday in Binghamton, New York. It was not an ideal day for the Green and Gold as they dropped both games against their State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) foe. 
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP – 
  • The Golden Eagles move to 4-5 on the year and 0-2 in SUNYAC play
  • The Red Dragons now sit at 7-7 this season, while holding a 2-3 mark in conference competition
HOW IT HAPPENED – 
 
Game One: Loss 5-1
·     Alex Brown got off to a hot start on the mound, striking out four of the first six batters he faced and worked back-to-back 1-2-3 innings 
·     Oneonta got on the board in the third inning, jumping out to a 2-0 lead
·     Brown worked out of further trouble and pitched a smooth fourth
·     The Red Dragons added runs in the fifth and sixth to go ahead 4-0
·     Brockport got the offense rolling in the eighth with Michael Spulnick and Nicholas Pastore singling to right field
·     Lou Miceli brought in the Green and Golds first run with a single to left field that brought in Spulnick and cut the deficit to 4-1
·     It was the only offense the team was able to put together as they dropped game one 5-1 
 
Game Two: Loss 8-4
·     Brockport got on the board early thanks to a single to right field by Miceli, which brought in Pastore who had singled himself
·     The Red Dragons quickly answered putting up a three spot in the bottom of the inning
·     Pastore once again helped the team score as he recorded an RBI single up the middle to score Aaron Cook
·     Starter Trevor McCarthy settled in after the third inning and retired nine of the next 11 batters that he faced 
·     The bottom of the fifth saw another trio of runs cross the plate for Oneonta, going up 6-2
·     After a pair of walks and an error helped load the bases, Pastore rocketed a double to right field and score two and cut the score to 6-4
·     Oneonta knocked in two runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth making the score 8-4
·     Matt Van Allen singled in the seventh inning with bases loaded to bring two runs in and once again cut the deficit to just two runs
 
KEY STATISTICS – 
 
Game One
·     Miceli went 2-for-4 with an RBI 
·     Pastore also finished 2-for-4 with a stolen base
·     Brown's day ended with a pitch line of: 5.1 IP, six hits, four runs and four strikeouts 
 
Game Two 
·     Pastore continued to hit, finished 3-for-4 at the plate, three RBI, a double and a run scored
·     Miceli once against impressed, going 2-for-3 with an RBI
·     McCarthy's pitch line was: 4.0 IP, seven hits, six runs and four strikeouts
 
UP NEXT – 
  • Up next for Brockport is the third game of this series against the Red Dragons on Gary Crooks Field at Maine-Endwell High School on Sunday, March 17. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
