BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The College at Brockport baseball team earned their first State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) win on Sunday over SUNY Oneonta, 10-2. The offense put together timely hits and excellent pitching kept the opposition from getting into a groove.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP –
- The Golden Eagles move to 5-5 on the year and 1-2 in SUNYAC play
- The Red Dragons now sit at 7-8 this season, while holding a 2-4 mark in conference competition
HOW IT HAPPENED –
- Aaron Cook got the offense started in the second inning with a single to center field before Brad Nowak tripled to right center to score him and put them up 1-0
- Ryan Mansell followed with a sacrifice fly and brought the score to 2-0
- After a Nicholas Pastore walk, back-to-back singles by Liam O'Leary and Lou Miceli brought in another run to make it 3-0 after the inning
- The Red Dragons scored their first run in the fourth
- The Green and Gold responded with three runs in the top of the fifth starting with a double by Anthony Eaton and triple by Cook
- After a Nowak walk and stolen base, Michael Spulnick pinch-hit and sent a 2 RBI single up the middle that extended the lead to 6-1
- The seventh inning saw the offensive play continue with a O'Leary walk, Miceli double and Kretzler walk loaded the bases
- Cook once again made solid contact to hit a 2 RBI single up the middle to put the team up 8-1
- Kretzler scored on a wild pitch a couple of batters later and put the advantage at 9-1
- After Oneonta added a run in the bottom of the sixth, Brockport responded in the top of the seventh with a Kretzler RBI double to right field that scored Josh Cosgrove
- Kyle Canavally, Stuart Martin and Kobie Punchard worked scoreless 3.0 innings of relief to close out the game with a 10-2 win
KEY STATISTICS –
- Cook finished 3-for-5 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored
- Miceli continues to hit well batting 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI, and one run scored
- O'Leary ended the days batting 3-for-3 with two walks and a run scored
- Nowak, Mansell and Spulnick combined for four RBI
- Brandon Greenspan threw three and two thirds innings of one run baseball, giving up four hits and striking out one
- Matthew Colucci tossed two and a third innings of one run baseball as well, while only allowing one hit

- Up next for Brockport is a single game battle against Alvernia University on Tuesday, March 19. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
