Kretzler Walk-Off Home Run Lifts Brockport Over Plattsburgh

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport baseball team salvaged the third game of their series against Plattsburgh State, thanks to a two-run home run by left fielder, Tom Kretzler. The ninth inning of the game saw five hits and seven runs between the two teams, but the Green and Gold came out on top 10-9.  
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP – 
  • The Golden Eagles improve to 8-12 on the season and 3-6 in conference play
  • The Cardinals drop to 4-12 on their season and 2-7 in SUNYAC competition 
HOW IT HAPPENED – 
  • Plattsburgh opened up the scoring with two quick runs in the first inning.
  • Brockport answered right back bringing in two of their own on an RBI double from Kretzler and an RBI single from Liam O'Leary.
  • In a similar fashion, Plattsburgh scored two more runs in the fifth inning in which Brockport immediately responded.
  • An RBI single by Ryan Voight cut the score to 4-3 before a Daniel DelGaizo single evened the score at 4-4.
  • In the seventh, both Aaron Cook and DelGaizo had base hits and were brought home by pinch hitter Brad Nowak putting the Golden Eagles ahead 6-4.
  • Ryan Mansell then singled, scoring Nick Pastore and Nowak, pushing the advantage to 8-4.
  • The Cardinals, did not go away without a fight, scoring five runs in the ninth inning to take a 9-8 lead.
  • In the bottom of the ninth, Pastore walked and Kretzler put the game away with a walk-off homerun to right field giving the Green and Gold the win, 10-9.
KEY GAME STATISTICS – 
  • Kretzler finished the game with three hits and three RBI.
  • Lou Miceli, O'Leary, DelGaizo, and Aaron Cook all also finished with multi-hit games with Miceli getting three.
  • Matthew Colucci pitched a good 5 1/3 innings, giving up just two runs on three hits.
UP NEXT – 
  • Brockport will travel to St. John Fisher on Wednesday, April 3 for a non-conference matchup with the Cardinals. The game will be set to start at 4pm.
