GENESEO, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's and women's track and field teams opened up the 2019 outdoor season on Saturday at the SUNY Geneseo Early Season Invitational where they competed against a number of teams including St. John Fisher, Oneonta, RIT, the University of Rochester, Alfred State and more.
HOW IT HAPPENED –
Men:
Track-
- The distance runners opened up the morning for the Golden Eagles, with Sharif Jarvis continuing the men's team success in the 10,000m run. The sophomore posted a second-place finish with a time of 33:41.14.
- The Golden Eagles men's 4x100 relay team of Devin Pravetz, Olivier Kothor, Egypt Page and Devon Legrair crossed the finish line at 42.59, securing them second-place and a regional qualifying time.
- James O'Brien and Ilya Wilson represented the men's team in the 3000m steeplechase, posting a fifth and 10th place finish. O'Brien was clocked at 10:12.60 and Wilson at 10:45.14.
- Matthew Kilian and Devin Pravetz opened up the sprint events in the 100m, Kilian clocking in a 11.17 for seventh-place and Pravetz at 11.20 for ninth-place.
- Legrair shined in the 400m as well, with an 11th place finish of 53.34.
- Lukas Hofbauer grabbed a solo top 10 finish in the 800m, securing 10th place with a time of 2:04.49.
- The Golden Eagles had two athletes compete in the 110m hurdles including Brandon Leiter and Michael Panzarino. The two collected second and fourth place finishes with times of 15.35 and 15.73.
- Johnathon Doud had success on the hurdles as well, grabbing a fourth-place finish in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.05.
- Kothor's solo performance on the track proved successful as well, as the sophomore clocked in at 22.43 for third place in the 200m.
- The men's team commanded the leaderboard in the 5000m with Andrew Davis, Sean Kuehn and Marius Sidlauskas leading the way. The three athletes posted qualifying times in their top three finishes, Davis at 15:19.86, Kuehn at 15:12.33 and Sidlauskas at 15:22.02.
Field-
- The men's hammer throw was the only event to take place on Friday afternoon.
- Gunner Rapone and Anthony Pane both ranked in the top 10, Rapone with a fifth-place mark of 47.17m and Pane with a ninth-place mark of 44.17m.
- Johnathon Fleming and Wolfgarr Lobo just missed the top 10 cut, grabbing 11th and 12th place respectively. Fleming was marked at 43.93m followed closely by Lobo at 43.63m.
- Anthony DeYoung and Rapone represented the men in the shot put, posting second and sixth place finishes respectively. DeYoung was marked at an even 15.00m while Rapone was placed at 13.92m.
- Liam Mooney and Brian Short had strong performances in the high jump, notching eight and 10th place, Mooney marked at 1.79m and Short at 1.74m.
- Rapone posted another strong performance in the discus throw, grabbing eighth-place finish of 40.93m.
- Joe Weaver was the solo finisher for the Green and Gold in the pole vault with a mark of 4.71, grabbing the freshman a second-place finish.
- Taj Shaw continued his success in the triple jump, securing second place with a jump of 13.44m.
Women:
Track-
- The women's 4x100 relay team of Molly Scarpello, Cynthia John-Ogam, Brianna Lawless and Satin Holmes had a strong outing as well, running away with a first-place finish of 49.61, a regional qualifying time.
- Allison Miller's success from the indoor season carried over as she posted her first first-place finish of the outdoor season in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:16.37.
- John-Ogam (12.44), Scarpello (12.47) and Holmes (12.51) continued their dominance into the 100m where they posted a third, fourth, and sixth place finish respectively.
- Lawless continued the strength in the sprint events, grabbing a seventh-place finish in the 400m with a time of 1:04.64.
- In her third event of the day, John-Ogam posted another top five finish, grabbing a fourth-place finish of 26.39 in the 200m.
- Krista Kicsak did what she does best in the distance category, running her way to a fifth-place time of 18:40.31, qualifying her for regionals.
Field-
- Jessica Craven started off the field events for the women's team, posting a second-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 46.95m.
- Alayna Fredenburg and Gabrielle Hoose tied for ninth-place with a pair of 38.68 times.
- The trio of Kelcey Watson, Maya Reina and Claire Fisher dominated the pole vault, grabbing first, second, and fifth place finishes. Watson was marked at 3.61m, Reina at 3.36m, and Fisher at 3.06m.
- Gillian Laco and Nicole Specht rounded out the scoring in 12th and 13th place.
- Lisa Huynh found herself a solo top five finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.13m which secured her a tie for fourth-place.
- Craven dominated the shot put as well, this time securing first place with a mark of 12.67m. The senior would also take home first place in the discus as well with a throw of 43.20m.
- Mady Dibble, Holly Buccheri, and Carly Antonucci rounded off the top 10, Dibble with a fourth-place finish of 11.64, Buccheri with a fifth-place finish of 11.47m, and Antonucci with a seventh-place finish of 11.39m.
- Dibble found success in the discus throw as well with a throw of 36.16m, securing her fourth-place.
- Huynh posted her strongest finish of the day in the triple jump, where she notched second-place with a mark of 10.59. Halle King and Mia Montgomery finished not far behind, King in sixth-place (10.34m) and Montgomery in eighth-place (10.04m).
- Fredenburg picked up a first-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 38.44m. Michelle Vayner rounded out the top 10 in the event, holding on to ninth-place with a mark of 24.56m.
- Olivia George would take home a first-place finish in the discus throw as well, with a throw marked at 33.42m.
