Outdoor Track and Field Take on Empire 8 Championships at Fisher

BROCKPORT, N.Y. — The Brockport Golden Eagles men's and women's outdoor track and field teams are set for a busy weekend as they travel to compete in the Empire 8 Championships, hosted by St. John Fisher Cardinals track and field. Competition begins Friday at 1:30 p.m. and continues Saturday at 10 a.m.

Brockport enters the weekend following a strong performance at the Blue Devil Invitational last weekend.

On the men's side, Brockport opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay, as Logan Thompson, Derek Grimshaw, Michael Durski, and Gabriel Giannini posted an All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) qualifying time of 41.58 seconds.

In the distance events, Charlie Alekson placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:10.78, while Aidan Mayer earned a runner-up finish in the 1,500 meters (4:08.77). Grimshaw led the sprint performances with a first-place finish in the 100 meters, recording an AARTFC qualifying time of 10.95 seconds, while Durski added a third-place finish in 11.28.

Ayden Grinion and Timothy Smith finished first and second in the 400-meter hurdles with AARTFC qualifying times of 53.65 and 53.66, respectively. Giannini added a second-place finish in the 200 meters (22.76), and Sam Faga placed second in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:43.69.

In the field events, Duncan Harbin placed third in the discus with a mark of 40.22 meters. Giannini recorded a second-place finish in the long jump (6.93 meters), while Judson Delany won the triple jump with a mark of 12.99 meters.

For the women, Madison Kirkpatrick led the distance group with a fifth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:18.19), while Emily Leo placed fifth in the 1,500 meters (4:55.28). Courtney Bostic added a third-place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.18.

In the middle-distance events, Maeve Robarge won the 800 meters (2:23.85), and Aaliyah Wright placed third (2:27.35).

In the field events, Trinity Dees placed second in the shot put with a mark of 12.77 meters. Safia Sessay and Ellie Cusmano finished second and third in the triple jump with marks of 10.00 meters and 9.96 meters, respectively. Rivera added a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw (44.96 meters).

Kirkpatrick also placed second in the javelin (29.20 meters), while MeKenna Uhl recorded a runner-up finish in the discus (35.24 meters).

Following the Empire 8 Championships, Brockport is scheduled to compete at the Farley Inter Regional Meet on May 8-9 as a final opportunity to qualify for the AARTFC Championships.
