ONEONTA, N.Y. – The College at Brockport softball team traveled to SUNY Oneonta Tuesday afternoon for their first of three State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchups this week, falling in both games to the Red Dragons, 7-4 and and 12-4.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP –
- Cheyenne Wilson and Megan Van Dorn were on the mound for the Green and Gold in game one followed by Julia Palopoli in game two.
- With the two losses, the Golden Eagles move to 11-13 on the season and 2-8 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED –
Game 1
Loss, 7-4
- The Red Dragons offense opened things up right from the get go, posting three runs off four hits in the bottom of the first.
- However, the Golden Eagles didn't allow them to maintain that lead for long, putting up a run of their own in the second.
- The Green and Gold picked up a quick first and second situation after Jessica Koneski reached on an error and Alison Missavage was hit by a pitch.
- Morgan Flamholtz then singled through the right side to load the bases with Kacie Hubbard up to bat.
- Now with the Red Dragons all frazzled, Hubbard forced an error by the catcher, allowing Koneski to reach home.
- The Golden Eagles kept the ball rolling into the third inning where they picked up another solo run.
- This time Alexis Ross led off, reaching on an error and was quickly advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Meghan Cullen.
- Casey Danko took advantage of Ross now in scoring position and nailed a single down the right field line to close the gap to 3-2.
- The fourth inning proved to be a struggle for the Green and Gold as well as the Red Dragons picked up three more runs to improve their lead to four.
- Koneski gave them another opportunity in the top of the fifth with an RBI single to right field, scoring Cullen from second.
- The Golden Eagles added one more run in the top of the seventh but not enough to seal the deal, allowing the Red Dragons to pick up a 7-4 win in game one.
Game 2
Loss, 12-4
- Game two started very similarly, this time the Red Dragons putting up two runs in the bottom of the first.
- The Golden Eagles were quick to tie things up in the top of the second, starting with a single through the left side by Koneski.
- Cami Duggan and Machala Andrews gave the Green and Gold two more base runners on a pair of walks, with Aren Schwab entering to pinch run for Koneski.
- The Red Dragons walked in the first run of the game, allowing Lexi Abernathy to pick up an RBI on Schwab.
- They would follow suit for run number two, walking Ross with bases loaded to score Duggan.
- The Golden Eagles took their first lead of the day in the top of the third with a leadoff double by Danko. Missavage then picked up a walk, setting Andrews up for the perfect scoring opportunity.
- The junior hit a hard-hit single to the shortstop, allowing Danko to cross home plate.
- The Golden Eagles added to their lead in the top of the fourth as well, this time starting with a double to left by Ross.
- After advancing to third on a wild pitch, Ross would score on a single through the left side by Danko to give the Green and Gold a 4-2 lead.
