BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport baseball team put together a strong performance on Wednesday, from their starting pitching, to their bullpen, to an offense that tallied 15 hits. After claiming the lead early in the game, the Green and Gold were able to hold on to a 6-4 victory over a strong Ithaca College team.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP –
· The Golden Eagles sit at 14-16 overall in 2019.
· The Bombers move to 19-7 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED –
·
Lou Miceli sent a single to center field that score
Nicholas Pastore and gave the team a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
·
Charlie Serino followed it up in the second inning with a hard it ground ball to second base that allowed
Aaron Cook to cross home from third.
· The offense continued to put together hits as
Josh Cosgrove started the bottom of the fourth with a double to left field.
· A few batters later,
Ryan Mansell singled, driving in Cosgrove from third and pushed the advantage to 3-0.
·
Kobie Punchard tossed a quality four innings to start the game, shutting the Bombers out and allowing just two hits.
· Ithaca was able to string together hits in the top of the fifth, scoring two runs, but
Trevor McCarthy entered in relief and limited the damage.
· The Green and Gold responded in the bottom of the fifth, with Cosgrove driving in two runs on a single to left field.
· Cosgrove later scored on a passed ball to make the score 6-3.
· Despite the opposition scoring two runs in the seventh, the Green and Gold used strong pitching by the bullpen to earn the 6-4 victory.
KEY GAME STATISTICS –
· Miceli and
Anthony Eaton both recorded three hit games, with Miceli hitting an RBI, while Eaton scored a run of his own.
· Cook, Cosgrove, and Pastore each had multi-hit games.
· Cosgrove finished the day with two runs scored and two RBI, while Cook crossed home plate twice.
·
Stuart Martin earned the save after tossing 2.0 scoreless innings and allowing just one hit.
UP NEXT –
· Brockport will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, April 20, when they host a double header against the University of Rochester at the Clark V. Whited Complex. Game one is slated for a 12 p.m. start, with senior day festivities to occur in between games.
