Kelcey Watson breaks records in the pole vault during teams appearance at the Cortland Classic

CORTLAND, N.Y. –  The College at Brockport men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Cortland Friday and Saturday afternoon for their second to last meet before hosting the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship meet.

HOW IT HAPPENED – 

Men


Track- (Friday)
 
  • Alex Burg opened things up in the 3000m steeplechase, ranking fourth overall with a time of 10:32.40.
  • Andrew Davis was the solo finisher in the 5000m, grabbing first-place with a time of 15:16.80. The seniors time was good enough to add him among the regional qualifiers.
  • Cody Mooney notched a fifth-place finish in the 10,000m, clocking in at 33:58.70, just missing the regional qualifying time.
 
Field- (Friday)
 
  • The Golden Eagles has six athletes finish in the top fifteen in the hammer throw. Johnathon Fleming (51.22m), Gunner Rapone (49.89m) and Matthew Faulise (46.80m) ranked in the top ten with fourth, fifth and eighth-place finishes respectively. DeYoung, Jordan and Pane then grabbed 11th, 12th and 14th.
  • Leiter grabbed a solo top finish in the long jump, notching eighth overall with a mark of 6.40m.
  • Joe Weaver grabbed the last of the first-place finish, securing the top of the leaderboard with a mark of 4.80m in the pole vault.
 

Track- (Saturday)
 
  • Michael Panzarino had a strong day all around competing as one of two male athletes in the decathlon. The sophomore finished third overall with a total score of 5229 through all ten events. Justin Gardner closed out the scoring for the Golden Eagles, securing 10th place with a total score of 4075.
  • The 4x100 team of Devin Pravetz, Olivier Kothor, Devon Legrair, and Matthew Kilian had another strong outing on the track, notching a regional qualifying second-place time of 43.23.
  • Mike Young posted a top ten finish in the 800m, holding seventh-place overall with a time of 1:58.10.
  • The Golden Eagles saw a number of qualifying times on the day and Brandon Leiter was amongst those athletes. Leiter finished fourth-overall in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.57.
  • Legrair added another top finish to his list of accomplishments in the 400m, grabbing a third-place finish of 50.54, just missing the regional qualifying time.
  • Kothor recorded another strong finish as well, posting second overall in the 100m sprints with a time of 10.76. Egypt Page clocked in not far behind, with a second-place time of 11.14.
  • Johnathon Doud and Andrew Davis posted top finishes in the men's 400m, posting ninth and 12th place respectively.
  • Kothor and Legrair capped off a successful day in the 200m, Kothor posting a fourth-place time of 22.31 and Legrair a sixth-place time of 22.69. Kothor's finish was ranked among the regional qualifiers.
 
 
Field- (Saturday)
 
  • Anthony DeYoung grabbed the strongest finish of the day for the men in the discus throw, posting first overall with a mark of 46.38m.
  • Art Jordan (40.38m), Gunner Rapone (40.05m) and Anthony Pane (37.48m) had strong appearances as well, securing seventh, eighth and twelfth place.
  • Bryan Short represented the Golden Eagles in the high jump, notching third-place overall with a mark of 1.83m.
  • DeYoung and Jordan ranked in the shot put as well with marks of 14.94 and 14.46m, grabbing them second and third-place.
  • Matthew Faulise closed out the top ten in the event, ranking eighth overall with a mark of 13.62.

Women
 
Track- (Friday)
 
  • Katherine Adams (12:47.38) and Megan McIntyre (13:07.35) competed for the women in the 3000m steeplechase, posting seventh and ninth-place respectively.
  • Allison Miller and Krista Kicsak dominated the 5000m, ranking first and third overall. Millers first place time of 17:47.58 was a regional qualifying time.
 
Field- (Friday)
 
  • Craven, Olivia George and Lelly Hoose led the women's team in the hammer throw, Craven topping the leaderboard in first with a 50.45m mark. George finished in fourth with a mark of 48.29m and Hoose in ninth with a mark of 45.70m.
  • The most impressive finish of the day came from Kelcey Watson in the pole vault, who posted a second-place finish with a mark of 3.85m. The seniors mark broke both the school and SUNYAC record as well as ranked her third overall in all of DIII in the event.
  • Maya Reina finished in the top five as well, grabbing fourth-place with a mark of 3.60m.
 
 
Track- (Saturday)
 
  • Freshman Ellie Ramirez had a solo strong finish for the women's team in the 110m hurdles, posting a fourth-place finish of 17.14.
  • Satin Holmes (12.52) and Brianna Lawless (12.54) opened things up in the sprint events for the women, notching fifth and sixth place respectively.
  • Lawless picked up her second strong finish of the day in the 400m hurdles, ranking fifth overall with a time of 1:09.47.
  • Holmes (26.25) and Molly Scarpello (26.38) proved to be a strong duo in the 200m sprints per usual, securing sixth and seventh-place.

Field- (Saturday)
 
  • The women's team dominated in the shot put, occupying three of the top ten spots. Jessica Craven led the group in third with a mark of 12.22m, followed by Mady Dibble in seventh with a mark of 11.81 and Mariah Mays in eighth with a mark of 11.62m.
  • Holly Buccheri just missed the top ten, notching 11th with a mark of 11.32m.
  • Chanyce Powell led the way in the triple jump, finishing fourth overall marked at 11.14m. Lisa Huynh finished just behind her in seventh with a mark of 10.91.
  • Craven rounded out her day with a first-place finish in the discus throw, marked at 42.16m. Dibble and Mays fell amongst the top ten as well, Dibble in fourth at 38.56m and Mays in eighth at 35.97m.
  • Halle King was the solo finisher for the women in the high jump, closing out the event in second with a jump of 1.55m.
 
Key Statistics –
 
  • The Golden Eagles had 20+ athletes post regional qualifying times.
  • This is the second weekend in a row that the Green and Gold have had an athlete rank nationally in DIII in an event as well as break a school record.
