BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport baseball team dropped a non-conference game against the Rochester Institute of Technology on Wednesday as the regular season begins to wind down. After nine-innings of intense baseball, the Green and Gold were on the wrong side of a 6-3 defeat.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP –
- The Golden Eagles sit at 15-17 overall in 2019
- The Soaring Eagles move to 15-13 on the season
HOW IT HAPPENED –
- Brockport fell behind 4-0 after the top of the second, but they answered to cut their deficit in half.
- In the bottom of the second inning, Aaron Cook and Daniel DelGaizo both reached base to kick things off.
- After being moved over on a sacrifice bunt by Justin Valentino, a hard-hit ball by Matt Van Allen was fumbled by the shortstop allowing the two runners to cross home plate.
- The middle innings were pitching duals, as the two teams combined for just three hits in three frames.
- The Green and Gold once again cut into their deficit in the sixth when Valentino doubled down the left field line to score Anthony Eaton from second.
- Unfortunately, the offense when unable to fully comeback and the team fell by a final of 6-3.
KEY GAME STATISTICS –
- The Golden Eagles saw a host of solid performances out of the bullpen starting with Cooper Meldrim, who tossed 2.0 innings of no-hit baseball, walking two and striking out one.
- Maddux Minton followed, with a scoreless fourth inning, before Stuart Martin threw a perfect fifth inning, while striking out two batters.
- Adam Douglas wrapped things up with a scoreless final two innings, allowing just one hit on one walk and struck out a pair of Tigers.
UP NEXT –
- Brockport will return to State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play on Friday, when they play the first game of a three-game series against SUNY Cortland. Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
