Brockport Drops First Game Of Cortland Series, 6-2

NEWARK, N.Y. – The College at Brockport baseball team traveled to Colburn Park on Thursday to play the first game of a three-game series against SUNY Cortland as the Green and Gold wrap up State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) regular season play. The outcome was not in their favor, as Brockport walked away with a 6-2 defeat. 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP – 
  • The Golden Eagles sit at 15-18 overall in 2019 and 6-10 in conference competition.
  • The Red Dragons move to 27-9-1 on the season and 16-0 in SUNYAC games 
HOW IT HAPPENED – 
  • The first three innings of the game was a fun back-and-forth between the two starting pitchers as they mostly held each other in check, Cortland held a 1-0 lead.
  • The game opened up for the Red Dragons in the fourth and fifth inning when they pushed their advantage to 5-0.
  • The Green and Gold kicked off their rally in the seventh inning with Josh Cosgrove working a walk and then Nicholas Pastore singling two batters later. 
  • Liam O'Leary worked a walk to load the bases and then Lou Miceli was hit by a pitch to bring in the team's first run of the day. 
  • Tom Kretzler continued the patience at the plate with a walk of his own that cut the deficit to 5-2.
  • Brockport was unable to continue the momentum and lost by a final of 6-2. 
KEY GAME STATISTICS – 
  • O'Leary finished the day batting 3-for-3 with two walks.
  • Maddux Minton was a force out of the bullpen, pitching 4.0 innings of one run, one hit baseball, while striking out five batters. 
UP NEXT – 
  • Brockport will host the double-header against the Red Dragons on Saturday, April 26 starting at 12 p.m. The game also marks the annual Hometown Heroes Event that will honor the service men and women of the area.
