Golden Eagles post strong performances at Cardinal Classic

EAST ROCHESTER, N.Y. –  The College at Brockport men's and women's track and field teams traveled to neighboring St. John Fisher College for the 2019 Cardinal Classic; the last meet before they host the SUNYAC Championships next weekend.

HOW IT HAPPENED – 
  • Four events took place on Friday afternoon including the men's and women's hammer throw and discus throw, followed by the remaining events on Saturday.
  • Holly Buccheri was the only athlete to compete for the Golden Eagles on Friday.

Men
 
Track-
  • The men's 4x100 team of Devin Pravetz, Olivier Kothor, Egypt Page, Matthew Killian started the morning topping the leader board with a time of 43.73.
  • Dylan Brickner (9:56.57), James O'Brien (10:13.42) and Alex Burg (10:36.44) led the way in the men's 3000m steeplechase, notching first, second, and fourth place respectively.
  • Sean Kuehn and Marius Sidlauskas dominated in the men's 1500m, collecting first and fifth-place finishes. Kuehn led the pack with a time of 4:03.05 and Sidlauskas posted a 4:08.06.
  • Egypt Page and Devon Legrair notched the top two spots in the 100m. Page led with a time of 10.98 followed shortly after by Legrair at 11.23.
  • Mike Young grabbed a fourth-place finish in the 800m with a time of 2:01.11 followed closely by Lukas Hofbauer in ninth-place with a time of 2:04.90.
  • Johnathon Doud posted a solo top finish for the Golden Eagles in the 400m hurdles, grabbing sixth overall with a time of 1:00.31.
  • Legrair topped the leaderboard in the 200m as well, posting a 23.02 first-place time.
  • In the 5000m, Ethan Carey led the way in third-place with a time of 15:43.55.
  • Jaysen Wylie, Garrett Suhr, Young, and Hofbauer had impressive performance in the 4x400, grabbing second-place with a time of 3:39.44. 
Field-
  • Liam Mooney and Gunner Rapone represented the men in the javelin throw, grabbing seventh and 13th overall. Mooney was marked at 39.24m and Rapone at 34.24m.
  • The Golden Eagles ran the scoring in the hammer throw, with Johnathon Fleming, Rapone, Matthew Faulise, Anthony Pane and Anthony DeYoung all ranking in the top 10. Fleming, Rapone, Faulise and Pane grabbed the two through five ranks respectively, with DeYoung in eighth and Jordan in 10th.
  • Mooney grabbed another top finish in the high jump, grabbing a third-place finish just behind teammate Bryan Short. Short posted a mark of 1.88m and Mooney a 1.83m.
  • Page grabbed himself another first-place finish in the long jump, marked at 7.32m.
  • Page led in his third event as well, notching a third-place finish of 13.40m in the triple jump. Short grabbed a sixth-place finish in the event as well, marked at 12.53m.
  • Short, Mooney, Brandon Leiter and Justin Gardner grabbed four top ten sports in the high jump. Short (1.88) and Mooney (1.83) led the group in second and third place, followed by Leiter (1.73m) in eighth and Gardner (1.68m) in 10th.
  • Fleming, Faulise, Jordan, and John Demy had strong performances in the shot put. Fleming and Faulise led in fourth and fifth place, followed by Jordan in seventh and Demy in 10th.
  • Mooney closed out the afternoon with the last of his top finishes in the javelin throw. The sophomore posted a seventh-place mark of 39.24m.
  • DeYoung, Rapone Demy, Jordan, and Pane closed things out for the men's team in the discus throw, commanding the leaderboard as well. DeYoung posted a second-place finish of 44.09m followed by Rapone (38.58m) and Demy (37.63m) in fifth and sixth, Jordan (37.08m) in eighth and Pane (34.92m) in 10th.
 

Women
 
Field- (Friday)
  • Buccheri opened up the weekend for the women on Friday in the discus throw, bringing home a first-place finish with a mark of 30.78m. 
Track-  
  • The 4x100 team of Molly Scarpello, Cynthia John-Ogam, Satin Holmes, and Brianna Lawless proved their dominance once again, notching a first-place finish with a time of 52.09.
  • The women's team had four athletes finish in the top 10 in the 3000m steeplechase including Allison Miller, Kayleigh Hildreth, Megan McIntyre, and Brooke Van Slyke. Miller (11:19.97) and Hildreth (13:01.68) led the way in first and second followed by McIntyre (13:12.11) in fifth and Van Slyke (13:28.44) in seventh.
  • Holly Heil was the solo top finisher for the Golden Eagles in the 400m, posting fourth place overall with a time of 1:01.82.
  • Another first-place finish came in the 100m hurdles, as Ellie Ramirez topped the leaderboard with a time of 16.37.
  • Molly Kazba and Miller both had top finishes in the 800m, Kazba with a sixth-place time of 2:26.16 and Miller with a ninth-place finish of 2:28.12.
  • One of the strongest finishes for the women's team as a whole came in the 200m, where Lawless, Scarpello, Holmes, and John-Ogam grabbed the top four spots. Lawless was clocked at 26.39, Scarpello at 26.57, Holmes at 26.57 and John-Ogam at 26.81.
Field-
  • Lisa Huynh, Halle King, Morgan Femiano, and Chanyce Powell started off the field events for the women in the long jump. Huynh grabbed a second-place finish with a mark of 5.52, followed by King in fifth at 5.29m, Femiano in ninth at 5.07m and Powell in 11th at 5.00m.
  • Ramirez posted another strong finish in the javelin throw, posting sixth overall with a mark of 28.82m. Rose Pitman and Jenna Federation finished not far behind Ramirez, with 10th and 11th place finishes respectively.
  • The women dominated in the hammer throw as well, grabbing four of the top ten spots. Jessica Craven led in first with a mark of 50.19m followed closely by Olivia George in second at 47.99m. Lelly Hoose and Cayleigh Scia closed out the scoring for the Golden Eagles in fourth and sixth, with marks of 43.75m and 40.21m.
  • Mia Montgomery, King, and Femiano posted strong performances in the triple jump, finishing second, sixth, and 10th respectively.
  • After breaking multiple records last weekend, Kelcey Watson returned to the top in the pole vault, grabbing first place with a mark of 3.75m. Maya Reina grabbed the next highest spot with a jump marked at 3.50m. Gillian Laco closed out the top ten with a mark of 2.90m.
  • Jessica Martin added another first-place finish for the Golden Eagles in the high jump, marked at 1.52m.
  • The women's field team continued to dominate the afternoon, notching five top ten spots in the shot put. Mariah Mays (11.82m), Mady Dibble (11.67m), Craven (11.57m), Buccheri (10.88m), and Carly Antonucci (10.71m) grabbed second, fourth, fifth, eighth and ninth-place respectively.
  • Ramirez, Rose Pitman and Federation posted sixth, 10th and 11th place finishes in the javelin throw. Ramirez was marked at 28.82m, Pitman at 22.96m and Federation at 22.32m.
  • Craven, Dibble, Mays, Michelle Vayner, and George closed out the field events for the women in the discus throw, dominating the top ten once again. Craven led the way at the top with a mark of 42.23m followed by Dibble in second with a mark of 39.88m. Vayner and George rounded out the top ten in the ninth and tenth respectively with marks of 32.65m and 31.65m.
