CORTLAND, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's and women's track and field team's traveled to SUNY Cortland on Wednesday for day one of the 2019 All-Atlantic Region Outdoor Championships (AAROTFC).
HOW IT HAPPENED –
Men
Track-
- Mike Panzarino opened up the afternoon for the men's team as the solo competitor in the men's decathlon. The sophomore held on to a fifth-place spot after day one with four events still ahead. Panzarino's best performance of the day came in the 400m where he recorded a third-place time of 52.05.
- Olivier Kothor and Egypt Page notched the top 10 in the men's 100m; Kothor leading the way in sixth with a time of 10.89 and Page in eighth with a time of 10.94.
- The men's team had two top finishers in the 3000m steeplechase as well, with James O'Brien recording a fifth-place time of 9:56.71 and Sharif Jarvis recording a seventh-place time of 10:03.32.
- Humberto Wallace Jr. grabbed a solo top finish in the men's 5000m, grabbing ninth-place overall with a time of 15:18.78.
Field-
- Joe Weaver once again had a demanding presence in the men's pole vault, grabbing a first-place finish with a mark of 4.93m.
- John Fleming was the solo top finisher for the Golden Eagles in the hammer throw with a second-place mark of 54.54m. Matt Faulise just missed the top 10 in the event, holding on to 11th place with a mark of 48.67m.
- Taj Shaw and Egypt Page closed out the day for the field events in the triple jump, grabbing seventh and ninth place respectively. Shaw led the way with a mark of 14.05m and Page followed closely behind with a mark of 14.03m.
Women
Track-
- Molly Scarpello led the way for the Golden Eagles in the women's 100m, grabbing sixth-place overall with a time of 12.48.
Field-
- Alayna Fredenburg had a strong performance in the javelin throw, posting third-place overall with a mark of 37.47m.
- The women's team found success in the triple jump as well as senior Lisa Huynh and Chanyce Powell grabbed eighth and 10th place respectively. Huynh was marked at 11.45m (grabbing her a qualifying finish in the event) and Powell at 11.04m.
- One of the strongest finishes of the day came from the women's hammer throw where the Golden Eagles notched two of the top three spots. Jess Craven led the way with a first-place finish marked at 51.72m followed closely after by Olivia George in third-place with a mark of 48.85m.
- The dynamic pole vault duo of Kelcey Watson and Maya Reina also had posted strong finishes on day one, both recording 3.53m marks, putting them in a three-way tie for third-place.
KEY STATISTICS –
After day one's events, the men's team currently holds a third-place team ranking with a total 26 points and the women's team currently leads the way in first-place with a total 33 points.
UP NEXT –
The Golden Eagles will compete in day two of the regional competition, starting tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
