BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's and women's track and field teams hosted day one of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships Friday afternoon. This is the first time since 2015 that Brockport has hosted the event.
HOW IT HAPPENED –
Men
Track-
- Mike Panzarino and Justin Gardner represented the men's team in the decathlon, notching third and sixth place after day one's events including the 100m, long jump, shot put and high jump.
- Panzarino's best finishes came in the long jump (6.01m) and 400m (52.40), where he grabbed second place finishes. Gardner's strongest performance was in the shot put where he notched a fourth-place mark of 9.83m.
- Olivier Kothor had a solo strong finish for the men in the 100m sprints, posting second overall with a time of 11.03, grabbing him a spot in tomorrow's final run.
- Kothor had another strong finish in the 200m prelims, with a time of 22.62, qualifying him for another finals performance tomorrow.
- Dylan Brickner, Sharif Jarvis and John Boyzok led the Golden Eagles in the 10,000m, Brickner grabbing third-place with a time of 31:52.63, Jarvis grabbing sixth-place with a time of 32:39.97 and Boyzok closing it out in eighth-place with a time of 32:41.87.
Field-
- John Fleming led the list of five athletes that topped the leaderboard in the hammer throw, posting a 51.77m finish. Matt Faulise (47.48m), Anthony Pane (45.58m), Tony DeYoung (44.95m) and Gunner Rapone (43.80m) then finished in fifth, seventh, eighth and 10th respectively.
- Egypt Page topped the leaderboard in the men's long jump, posting a 7.04m mark. Brandon Leiter finished not far behind, finishing seventh overall with a mark of 6.60m.
- The most impressive finish of the day came from freshman Joe Weaver in the men's pole vault, where his mark of 5.07m broke both the meet record and the conference record as well as ranked him nationally.
Women
Track-
- Madison Baker represented the women's team in the heptathlon, holding on to seventh-place after day one's events including the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200m. The freshman's best performance came in the 100m hurdles where she grabbed a fifth-place time of 16.77.
- Ellie Ramirez competed in the opening round of the 100m hurdles, where the freshman posted a 16.21 finish, grabbing her a spot in the final run tomorrow.
- Satin Holmes (12.63) and Molly Scarpello (12.67) both got a good start on the weekend, notching second and third in the first round of the 100m sprints, placing them both in tomorrow's finals.
- Rose Pitman's second-place finish of 2:21.24 in the 800m prelims grabs her a spot in tomorrow's finals.
- Brianna Lawless led the way in the 200m prelims, finishing fourth overall with a time of 25.70. Holmes closed out the top scoring, notching eighth with a time of 25.95. Both athletes' times qualify them to compete in tomorrows' finals.
Field-
- The women's team dominated in the pole vault, grabbing three of the top four finishes. Maya Reina had a standout performance, notching a 3.77m mark, tying her for the second best mark in school history.
- Kelcey Watson and Claire Fisher finished just behind Reina in second and fourth-place; Watson at 3.60m and Fisher at 3.35m.
- Alayna Fredenburg and Ramirez both grabbed top finishes in the javelin throw, Fredenburg leading in second with a mark of 36.91m and Ramirez at 32.11m.
- Lisa Huynh was the solo top finisher for the Green and Gold in the long jump, notching second-place with a mark of 5.51m.
- One of the strongest finishes of the day came in the women's hammer throw, where Jess Craven, Olivia George and Lelly Hoose posted first, second and sixth respectively.
- Craven led the pack with a 54.53m mark, which broke the facility record as well as placing her nationally.
