Rochester, NY – The College at Brockport men's soccer team jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the first half but could not hold on in a 3-2 loss Friday night on day one of the 2019 Doug May Memorial Soccer Tournament at RIT.

Jeff Hibbard each scored on opening night for the defending SUNYAC Champs as the Golden Eagles dropped to 0-1-0 on the season. Brockport returns to the pitch on Saturday when it hosts Westminster in the home opener for the Golden Eagles (7 p.m.).
Senior co-captain Simon Garno tallied the game winner for RIT (1-0-0) in the 73rd minute.
Nick Simone gave RIT a 1-0 lead on his goal in the fifth minute. Garno sent a ball into the Brockport penalty area that Simone ran onto and tucked into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
Brockport answered back on sophomore
Matthew Stefaniw's first goal of the season in the eighth minute to knot the score at 1-1. He scored on a loose ball in front of the RIT goal off of a Golden Eagle's free kick.
Senior
Jeff Hibbard then converted a penalty kick in the 25th minute that gave the Golden Eagles a 2-1 edge early in the contest.
Just before halftime, RIT equalized on a Jared Short goal in the 41st minute. Simone sent a free kick into the Brockport box and that found the head of Short to tie the game at 2-2.
RIT took the lead on Garno's goal in the 73rd minute. Garno fed Sansone, who slid a pass back to Garno, who continued his run. He scored on a one-time shot to give the Tigers the 3-2 lead that they would not relinquish.
Brockport won the corner kick advantage 5-2 over the home team and each squad posted seven shots on goal in the evenly matched contest.
Tautis Poniskaitis stopped four shots in net for the Golden Eagles, while Will Sokol made five saves for the Tigers.
