Earlham Narrowly Edges Brockport on Final Day at Mount Union Tournament

Alliance, OH – The College at Brockport volleyball team's rally against Earlham fell just short as the Golden Eagles lost 3-2 in the final match on day two at the Mount Union Tournament Saturday. Brockport lost the first match of the day 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-17) against Muskingum before falling 3-2 (28-26, 25-15, 23-25, 24-26, 15-9) against Earlham.

Brockport's Meaghan Mastro earned All-Tournament team honors after she posted 37 kills, 36 digs and 12 blocks over the course of four games at the tournament.

The Golden Eagles return from Ohio with a 1-3 ledger and they will get right back to work on the hardwood on Friday for day one of the Clarkson Tournament. Brockport takes on D'Youville in the first match of the weekend at 6 p.m.

Andrea Coyle led the way for Brockport against Muskingum as she posted a team-high 10 kills to go along with eight digs. Mastro added six kills and 10 digs, while Lindsey Luce added three kills of her own. Kerri McHale posted 10 assists as the Golden Eagles dropped a 3-0 decision in the first match on Saturday.

Brockport's final match of the tournament proved to be a thriller. Earlham squeaked out the first set 28-26 and looked to be in control after a convincing 25-15 win in the second set.  Coach Pike and the young Golden Eagles did not go down without a fight though as they rallied for third (25-23) and fourth (26-24) set victories.  However, the comeback took its toll on the green and gold as Earlham came away with a 15-9 advantage in the fifth and final set.

Mastro and freshman Jordan Thompson each posted 13 kills in the contest. Ellen Paddock chipped in with 17 digs, while McHale added 16 assists and seven digs.

Coyle totaled nine kills in the second game of the day to finish with 19 total on Saturday. Luce added seven kills and six blocks, while Elena Grossman posted five kills and three blocks.
