Brockport, NY – The College at Brockport women's soccer team is on the road Tuesday night for a matchup with Nazareth College, beginning at 5 pm.
Breast Cancer Awareness: Tuesday's game marks the Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game between the Golden Eagles and the Golden Flyers. The teams are working together to raise money which will be donated to assist those fighting the disease. Both schools will sport pink shirts during warm-ups for the occasion. There will be a 50/50 raffle during the match to help raise funds as well as a chance to donate $5 upon entry to the venue.
Lupo in Net: Freshman goalkeeper,
Morgan Lupo played a significant part in securing the team's last two wins. She made her collegiate debut against St. John Fisher, making 10 saves in the overtime win. Lupo followed up her debut with her first career shutout to aid a 2-0 triumph over Houghton. In her first two career starts she is 2-0 with 12 saves and just one goal allowed. Morgan's performance last week earned her the honor of Presto Sports Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Led by Longin: Kiley Longin, another freshman, is the current team leader in points and goals. She scored in her first game as a Golden Eagle in the season opener and since has registered one goal and one assist. Longin has a total of five points so far (2 goals, 1 assist) and has been aggressive in the offensive zone with a team-high 15 shots.
Gaining Momentum: The Green and Gold have now won two straight games, both coming on the home grass. With a 2-0 record at home, the team will look to carry that momentum into the matchup with Nazareth on the road. With Lupo playing strong in net and the offense increasing production from opening weekend look for continued success heading into a long trip away from home.
Road Trip: The Golden Eagles are about to begin a long trip away from the nest, with four consecutive road games up next. The team starts Tuesday against Nazareth to kick-off the slew of away games. Trips to Alfred University (Sept. 13
th), SUNY Canton (Sept. 15
th), and Juniata College (Sept. 21
st) are to follow. Brockport will not be back playing on its home field until a matchup with SUNY Cortland on Friday September 27
th.
Scouting Nazareth: The Golden Flyers are currently holding a 2-1 record this far into the year. After falling 1-0 against Baldwin Wallace, Nazareth bounced back this past weekend with a 2-1 overtime win against St. John Fisher. Mia Longo scored the equalizer for the team with less than three minutes left in regulation, setting the stage for Megan McCraith to score the game-winner in overtime. Hannah Miller has been the starting goalie for Naz, allowing two goals and making 15 saves in three starts in net.
The Weekend Ahead: Brockport will continue the road trip on Friday with a visit to Alfred for a 6 pm kick-off. Then on Sunday the team will be in action again, traveling to face SUNY Canton at 1 pm.
