BROCKPORT, N.Y.- The College at Brockport men's soccer team travels to the state of Ohio this weekend for two non-conference matchups. The team will take on Otterbein University Saturday at 7 pm, followed by a 3 pm tilt on Sunday against Capital University.
Where They Left Off: Brockport took the field last versus Medaille College, where they secured a 3-1 victory at home. The Green and Gold took over the contest, dominating in their usual fashion leading in shots and corner kicks. Senior midfielder
Jason Hayes found the back of the net twice, with assists coming from
Jeff Hibbard and
AJ Sinclair.
Russell Hines had the team's third goal to shut the door on the visiting Mavericks. Goalkeeper
Tautis Poniskaitis played all 90 minutes and delivered three saves in the win.
Winning Streak: Brockport has been on a tear as of late, winning five games in a row to boost its record to 5-1 overall. The team has not lost in the month of September, with its only loss coming in the season opener against RIT on August 30
th. During this five-game win streak Brockport has outscored opponents 17-2, including three shutouts. With the beginning of conference play on the horizon, the team looks to keep this momentum moving forward.
Team Statistics: The Golden Eagles are currently producing 3.17 goals per game with 9 different players registering at least one goal. Sitting in third place in the SUNYAC prior to league play, Brockport is second in goals for, assists and shot percentage.
Matthew Stefaniw and
Jeff Hibbard are both top 10 in the conference in points, combining for totals of seven goals, seven assists, and 21 points.
In Net: Goalkeeper
Tautis Poniskaitis has played the entirety of Brockport's last two matchups and only allowed a single goal. He has logged 11 total saves and holds a 1.11 goals against average after 405 minutes in the net. The senior has recorded one shutout so far this season and holds a record of 4-1.
Conference Play Coming Up: Brockport will begin to prepare for SUNYAC play after the weekend, with the first conference matchup scheduled for Friday, September 27
th. The team will hit the road for a SUNYAC Championship rematch with the Cortland Red Dragons. Kick-off for this match is set for 4 pm.
History or Lack Thereof: The Golden Eagles haven't faced either Ohio team in the past 50 years. The red-hot Brockport team will look to continue their win-streak against the out of conference opponents.
Scouting Otterbein: The Cardinals hold a record of 4-2 overall this season and are the winners of two straight heading into the weekend matchup. The team recently took down Ohio Wesleyan, 1-0, and also defeated Transylvania, 3-0. Otterbein has not lost a match at home yet in 2019, with a 2-0 record on its home turf. Pau Piang is the leading scorer for the Cardinals, tallying seven points on two goals and three assists.
Scouting Capital: The Capital University Crusaders currently hold a mark of 3-1-1, coming off their first loss of the year. The Crusaders fell to Wooster at home, 3-1, giving up two second half scores. Brandon Woo leads the way offensively, as the senior has four total points off of two goals.
After the Weekend: Brockport's next match is Sept. 27 at 4 p.m. in Cortland for the opening of SUNYAC play. The Golden Eagles aren't back on their home field until Oct. 4, where they start a four-game home stand against Potsdam.
