Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Stefaniw Scores Late as Brockport Ties Capital

Columbus, OH – The College at Brockport men's soccer team took on Capital University Sunday for another non-conference contest. The game resulted in a 1-1 draw, as the team's record moves to 5-2-1 overall on the season.

The Capital Crusaders got on the board first, with a goal in the 39th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The home team outshot Brockport 9-2 in the opening half and entered with a one score advantage at halftime.

The Golden Eagles trailed for most of the match, until they drew a penalty kick opportunity late in regulation. Matthew Stefaniw would do the honors, burying the attempt past the opposing goalkeeper for the equalizer. A 1-1 tie at the end of 90 minutes sent the game to overtime.

The Green and Gold outshot Capital 4-1 over the course of two overtime periods, but neither team could find the back of the net.

Goalkeeper Tautis Poniskaitis started in net, making two saves in the first half. Teammate Joseph Romano would take over for the second half of play, coming up with three saves including a stop in extra time.

Brockport now turns its attention towards SUNYAC play with the next match set for Friday, September 27th. The team will travel to take on Cortland for a 4 pm kick-off.
