Brockport's Back From Break to Take on Alfred

Brockport, NY – The College at Brockport men's basketball team returns from the holiday break with a home game against Alfred University. The contest is scheduled to tip-off at 5 pm on January 3rd, 2020.

Mauro Panaggio Tournament: Prior to a short winter break the team was down in Daytona Beach, FL to compete in the Mauro Panaggio Tournament. After defeating Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 83-73, on day one the Green and Gold fell, 94-90, to the College of Wooster in the championship game. Justin Summers and Jahidi Wallace both were selected to the All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of play at the event.

Early Season Recap: With the first semester of the school year finished the bulk of the schedule is yet to come for the Green and Gold. The team is currently sitting at a 6-2 record overall and is 2-0 in conference play. After falling to Morrisville in the season opener, Brockport went on to win six straight games before its most recent loss to Wooster. With SUNYAC wins over Oswego and Cortland, the team is atop the conference standings heading into the new calendar year.

Welcome Back: After missing the first six games of the season, the Golden Eagles are now bringing Antonio Alvarez and Devante Hagins back to the court. Both returners were able to get some playing time at the Mauro Panaggio Tournament. In two games Alvarez tallied three points, two boards, and a steal to shake off the rust. Hagins put up 14 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, a block, and three steals in his first two games of the year. Both were key contributors last season and are a welcome addition back into the lineup.

Team Leaders: Justin Summers is leading the squad with averages of 19.6 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. Jahidi Wallace is right behind him with marks of 15.6 points an 5.3 rebounds a game. Tyler Collins is the third player putting up double-digit points consistently, averaging 11.5 points to go with a team-best 4.4 assists per game. Summers leads the team with 12 blocks, while Danny Ashley has 21 steals defensively.

Scouting Alfred: The Alfred University Saxons are 4-3 overall with games against Mount Union and Kenyon coming ahead of the Brockport matchup. The team has five players averaging at least 10 points a game, with Sam Dagon's 14.6 points a game leading the way. Cole Eells is the primary threat from long range, shooting just under 40% at 18-for-46 from beyond the arc. The Saxons have yet to lose a game on the road this year, going 2-0 away from home.

Looking Ahead: The Golden Eagles get back to conference play after taking on Alfred, as they travel to face Potsdam on January 10th. The game is set to tip-off at 7:30 pm that Friday.
