Short Weekend Ahead for Golden Eagles

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's basketball team has a light week with a single matchup with neighboring SUNY Geneseo on Saturday. The Golden Eagles struggled to find a win last week in their three conference showdowns and are aiming to turn their luck around tomorrow against the Knights.

The Battle of Records: The Golden Eagles currently rank eighth overall in the SUNYAC conference right now, however the leader board is up for grabs. Eight-Point Miss: Despite picking up a nail-biting loss to New Paltz on Saturday, the Golden Eagles held the Hawks to a season low performance, allowing them only 14 points and securing a 20-point lead before the half. The Hawks were only 14% shooting through both the first and second quarter, while executing on only four of 28 total attempts. The Green and Gold lost momentum in the third quarter allowing the Hawks to sink 27 points, ultimately changing the fate of the game. Kylee Rosbrook and Julianna Taylor were the front runners of the Golden Eagles offense, sinking 14 and 12 points apiece while each grabbing seven rebounds. The Golden Eagles strength came as a result of a continued push from all areas of the floor, posting 22 points in the paint, 13 points off turnovers, eight fast break points and six second chance points. The team also continued to prove themselves at the line, missing only one free throw opportunity all night for a strong 88.9% shooting.

How to Prepare: The Knights currently rank third overall with a strong 12-2 record and 5-2 in conference play. Prior to last weekend's overtime loss to New Paltz, the Knights were on a six-game win streak, including four SUNYAC wins against Oswego, Plattsburgh, Potsdam and Fredonia.

As a team the Knights are currently averaging 68.4 points per game, 43.4 rebounds, and 15.3 assists while shooting 42.6% from the floor, 32.1 from three and 75.7 from the line. The Knights offense is currently being led by junior forward Kerrin Montgomery who is averaging 14.1 per game Montgomery is also joined by senior Sara Ciotti who is averaging 11.3 points per game.

Three in One: After this weekend, the Golden Eagles have another busy week ahead of them with three conference matchups. The Green and Gold will open the week at Buffalo State on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and then will bring their efforts back home for a double header against Potsdam and Plattsburgh.
