Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team is set to host Potsdam and Plattsburgh. The matchup with Potsdam is at 7:30 pm on Friday, with the Plattsburgh game scheduled for 4 pm Saturday.
Making it Six Straight: The Golden Eagles defeated Buffalo State earlier in the week, 91-68, giving them six wins in a row heading into the weekend. The team had four players reach double figures in the win on the road. SUNY Brockport is on a roll during this win streak, carrying a 21.3-point average margin of victory. With a record of 13-3 overall and 8-1 in the SUNYAC, this weekend will be a big test.
Bench Production: In the last outing, the Green and Gold received superb production from the reserve players, as the bench scored a season-high 50 points in the win.
Tyler Sullivan led the team with 16 points off the bench, his highest scoring total as a Golden Eagle. Teammate
Tyree Grimsley also put up his highest point total since joining Brockport, shooting 6-for-6 from the field for 15 points. Having depth is very valuable, especially heading into a key stretch of the season.
The TC Swiper: In his last two games,
Tyler Collins has nearly doubled his amount of steals he has recorded from the rest of the season. With 18 steals prior to the Geneseo game last weekend, Collins is now second on the team with 29. Including a career-high six steals against Geneseo, the senior guard has 11 steals over the last two games on the defensive end. Creating turnovers like this has helped Brockport outscore its last two opponents 56-25 off of turnovers.
Protect the Nest: The Golden Eagles have done their job in protecting home court this season and look to continue to do so. With a record of 7-0, they are undefeated while playing in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium. It has been almost a full-calendar year since dropping a game at home, with the last home loss coming against Oswego on February 15
th, 2019.
Battle for the Top Spot: Friday night's game against Potsdam carries a little extra weight than some of the more recent SUNYAC contests for Brockport. Both teams are 8-1 in conference play and are fighting for the number one spot in the SUNYAC standings. Brockport has won six straight games, while Potsdam is on a seven-game win streak. This game could heavily impact the seedings for the conference tournament when the time comes.
Potsdam Matchup: Potsdam is 13-3 overall and 8-1 in the conference, mirroring the same record as Brockport heading into Friday. The last time these two teams met was earlier this season, where the Bears got the win by a score of 86-70. The loss to Potsdam is the last time Brockport lost a game, and is the only conference loss the team has had this year.
Plattsburgh Matchup: The Cardinals are 6-10 overall and 3-6 in SUNYAC competition going into the weekend. After defeating Cortland last Friday, 76-72, the team fell in its next game to Oswego, 63-44. In the previous matchup against Plattsburgh, Brockport got the 94-72 win on the road. Plattsburgh will take on Geneseo this Friday, prior to Saturday's contest.
What's Next: The Golden Eagles will start a three-game road trip, beginning with a visit to Fredonia on Tuesday, February 4
th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
