Brockport, NY – The College at Brockport men's basketball team is on the road this weekend for SUNYAC matchups against Potsdam and Plattsburg. The Potsdam game is on Friday at 7:30 pm, while the Plattsburgh game will tip-off at 4 pm on Saturday.
Last Time Out: The Golden Eagles took down Alfred University in their last game, 87-64, behind a 53-point second half. In his first start of the season,
Devante Hagins did it all for the Green and Gold. Hagins posted 16 points, eight boards, five assists, three blocks, and three steals.
Jahidi Wallace led the team with 17 points, going a perfect 10-for-10 at the charity stripe.
Justin Summers,
Tyree Grimsley, and
Antonio Alvarez all scored double-digit points for the team as well. Brockport is now 7-2 overall on the season after the win at home.
SUNYAC Play: Brockport's last game against Alfred marked the final non-conference game of the season, as only SUNYAC opponents are left on the schedule. The team has started off the year 2-0 in-conference and looks to continue that success. Grabbing wins against Oswego and Cortland thus far, Brockport will start this weekend with matchups against Potsdam and Plattsburgh to get back into SUNYAC competition. Although a lot of games remain to play in the conference, Brockport and Oneonta are currently tied for first in the standings, both at 2-0 in the SUNYAC.
Last Year's Conference Play: The Golden Eagles finished last year's regular season 11-7 against SUNYAC opponents, and made a run to the conference championship game. They entered the conference tournament as the third seed last season. Oswego was the only team in the SUNYAC Brockport did not earn a win against. Already 2-0 with wins over Oswego and Cortland provides confidence moving forward to improve upon last year's mark in the conference.
Team Leaders: Justin Summers is the team's top scorer and rebounder, averaging 18.7 points and 7.7 boards a game.
Jahidi Wallace is right there as well, putting up 15.8 points and 5.3 rebounds a night.
Tyree Grimsley is shooting 64.3% from the floor to lead the squad, while Wallace is shooting a team best 45.5% from long range.
Tyler Collins has the most assists for Brockport at four per game, while
Danny Ashley's averaging a team-high 2.4 steals a game. Summers continues to protect the rim for the Green and Gold, blocking 1.6 shots a night on average.
Scouting Potsdam: The Bears are well rested and looking to bounce back from a loss against Purchase back on December 14
th. Potsdam fell, 88-85, in the contest at the York Invitational. Danny Delsol-Lowry led the way with 28 points and nine rebounds on a solid shooting night.Tyrese Baptiste posted a double-double with 16 points and 12 boards in the loss. The team holds a record of 6-3 overall and 1-1 in SUNYAC play.
Scouting Plattsburgh: The Plattsburgh Cardinals are 4-5 overall with a 1-1 mark in conference play so far this season, with a Friday night matchup against Geneseo ahead of Saturday's game with Brockport. In its last outing the team fell to number three national ranked Middlebury College, 99-60. Travis Cox is the leading scorer for the Cardinals, putting up 18.3 points a game this year and a team-best seven rebounds per game. Plattsburgh is currently 2-0 on its home court heading into the weekend.
Looking Ahead: After the weekend set, the Golden Eagles return to their home court to host Buffalo State on Tuesday, January 14
th. The game will tip-off at 7:30 pm.
